- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I didn’t kind the book until probably the last 10% of the book. Milly finally regains her memory and why she ran... and the reason was pretty bad. Of course our hero doesn’t believe her because by god a hero believing the woman he loves would clearly be too much to ask. Bottom line she came thisclose to apologizing to him and comforting him when the truth comes out. Just utter rediculousness with how the problem was dealt with.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Why should anyone pay for a damaged human being who doesn’t even want to help himself get over his insecurities? Blergh.. Run away fast from these types of people.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It kept my attention. So that’s worth noting. The supposed hero was a pretty rotten, manipulative guy, so that’s worth noting, too.
If his awfulness had been confined to the “after” time when he believed she was screwing around with his brother, I suppose I would have been inclined to like him better. His behavior after finding her isn’t all that bad considering that he believes she cheated on him. He’s not super cruel or anything. However, prior to her accident, they had been together for two years during which time he deliberately treated her like a paid prostitute. The whole “mistress” thing is so absurd in this day and age. But he deliberately refers to her as such. She is his paid companion, essentially, but undeserving of being acknowledged as a relationship. She has to fight for every scrap of legitimacy with him. She has to leave him early on because he is sleeping with numerous other women. He finally comes back a month later and says he’ll give them up if she’ll sleep with him. From the very first moment he tells her he is pursuing her for sex and nothing else. And after two years together, he still didn’t acknowledge any feelings for her. She, on the other hand, feels like if she loves him hard enough, some day he’d love her back. That is what I hated about him. He was significantly older than her and pursued a 20 year old woman for sex relentlessly until she basically caved in. He took any opportunity when she was weak (like when she was sick) to step in and put her in a position of needing him. He knew he was using her. Admits to himself that his behavior would destroy her. But he is selfish and loathsome and a predator. In every and all flashbacks, I wanted her to leave him. She was just a sexual slave and it was sad.
On the other hand, the guy “after” the accident isn’t so bad. It wasn’t a case where I hated their HEA. I actually liked him in the last chapter. But it was hard to forgive the gross predator he was previously. I also have a fundamental issue with the way sexual assault and predatory behavior are addressed in this book. Considering it is a Lynne Graham book, I shouldn’t be surprised, but she is revoltingly sympathetic to the poor, confused younger brother who assaulted the heroine. She has the heroine beg the hero to accept the brother back into his life. Wut? Yep. She makes excuses for the creep and is concerned because he looks so lost since he lost his brother’s respect. Gag. This is why so many rapists go free or get a slap on the wrist. People like this author don’t see assault as a real crime. I need to remember to stop reading anything by this author. - Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Horrible book, take my advice and don’t even waste your time
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5nice book....H was a villian but not really mean, interesting Hr, quirky repartee between the two
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book. It was different from the other books by the same author in the sense that there was actually some storyline merged in with romance. Along with that both the hero and heroine had interesting personalities. Enjoyable overall.
