I loved this book. It spoke to me on such a personal level. In my search for (in my best moments) enlightenment and (in my worst moments) some understanding of why I’m in a particular difficulty and where I can find help to deal with it, many times I’ve read words which have been given in truth and love and have helped me to a greater or lesser extent. This one though, connected to my life in the everyday world, with its everyday trials and disappointments, with such compassion and perception that it was like rubbing a healing ointment directly onto my heart. I couldn’t stop reading it and as I read my troubles just seemed to slip off my shoulders. I really liked the way that we get glimpses of life through Mary’s eyes as that makes it easy to connect with Her energy and see how it can work in your own life. It’s packed with examples, information and instructions which guide you along the path to connecting with Mary’s energetic pattern and the meditations, invocations and prayers are powerful tools to change the vibrations around any situation. A truly wonderful book and one I’ll be reading over and over again.

I think this is the book I’ve been looking for all my life. I found it really helpful. I particularly liked the way Sherrie shares her own story and gives examples of difficulties and resolutions in other people’s lives. A lot of it had resonance with my own circumstances and made me realize that at any point, any moment, no matter how bad things might get or how down I might feel, all I had to do was reach out and help was there. Through sharing the everyday type of problems Sherrie and the people she has worked with have faced and, given the nature of life, will continue to face and seeing the patterns emerge and the magic of transformation at work, I’ve started to feel much more positive about resolving the various issues in my own life. There is so much that is uplifting in this book and the meditations and prayers have an immediate effect on lifting emotions and vibrations. I will keep on using the practices I found in this book and would recommend it to anyone. A terrific book.

The Miracle Workers Handbook - Sherrie Dillard

Introduction

You may be wondering why someone who has had a long career as an intuitive counselor and medium is writing a book about Mary, mother of Jesus. Well, this surprises me too. Perhaps it would add to my credibility to tell you that I have a degree in theology, my mother was a United Methodist Minister, as is one of my brothers, and my other brother is a Catholic theologian and the chair of the religion department at a prominent Catholic University.

However, while all of this has certainly influenced me, the Mary that I hope to introduce you to has little to do with theology and organized religion. Mary is not the property of the church and nor is her scope of influence only for those who are religiously oriented. This is a very different Mary. She is intimate, personal, loving, a bit of a rebel and has a message for you that will empower you to transform the many mundane challenges, stifling conditions and stresses that you confront every day into the extraordinary.

It does not matter if you are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, spiritual or pagan, her presence transcends the parameters of any particular spiritual belief or theological teaching. You may not be religious and feel ambivalent toward Mary and know little of her and may even question the events as laid out in the Bible and have doubts as to what and who Mary, Jesus and God really are? If so, then you will be introduced you to the energy pattern of Mary, a powerful guide for creating miracles.

The Modern Day Miracle Worker

This book is for you, the modern day miracle worker, who can be found in every occupation, race, religious faith, social and economic class and corner of the globe. Miracle workers come from all walks of life, political viewpoints and beliefs. Courageously and usually without being noticed, the modern day miracle worker walks the earth with gentle determination, compassion and in partnership with the divine, co-creating through grace.

Being a miracle worker is not always an easy task. The world, with its material minded view of what is possible, may try to dissuade you from your heart felt belief that miracles not only exist, but are the norm and the way life is meant to be lived. You may not fully acknowledge the miracle worker within, but you think and feel differently than others and are able to perceive a world of abundance, love and unlimited possibilities for everyone. The miracle worker in you may be hidden away, waiting to emerge and come to life. If so, it is time call this powerful self in to being. You are a creator capable of transforming the routine and ordinary into the miraculous. Transcend the limitations of the material laws of cause and effect and experience grace, your intimate connection to divine source.

You may not have previously considered Mary your ally, but she is your devoted partner in creating miracles. Her life on earth established the pattern for working in unison with the divine creative forces. As the steward of miracles she will support and empower you to go beyond what you may think is possible and experience a life without limits.

Religious or Spiritual

Many religions know Mary as the iconic virgin mother of Jesus the Messiah. Yet her significance and the secret message of her life have remained hidden for thousands of years. It is within the spiritual story of Mary that you will discover her true power and influence. To fully understand the partnership that Mary offers you, it is important to understand the difference between religion and spirituality.

Religion is an organized set of beliefs and ritual practices. It is usually public and most often has a leader or a central figure who directs the moral expectations, customs and traditions of its particular system. Most religions have a central teaching and code of doctrine and beliefs that can be read and studied.

The term spiritual may mean different things to different people. It has become so common that in most questionnaires that ask you to identify your religious affiliation there is now the option of spiritual. But what does spiritual really mean?

To understand spirituality one must understand the term spirit. Spirit is pure and active life force energy. It is the energetic mediator between you and divine source and between your body and soul. Spirituality is a personal and private experience. Not initiated by an outer source, one’s spiritual beliefs, understanding of God and/or the divine and the meaning of life, are defined by looking within oneself. Your personal beliefs and spiritual experiences do not have to make sense to anyone else and often they do not. As an intimate and personal experience of connection to a higher power forms the basis of one’s spiritual nature.

Evolution of Truth

Mary’s spiritual path is for those who are ready to contact Mary, accept her grace, live in the miraculous and claim the miracle worker within. To fully embrace her message, I ask you to keep an open mind and heart. Your beliefs and perceptions of what is possible may be challenged and your view of reality tested. It is not always easy to accept new ideas, perceptions and the miraculous. Perhaps you are like me and it seems that your spiritual beliefs and preconceived judgments and notions have been continuously challenged. You have had to accept new levels of awareness and insight even when it felt uncomfortable to do so.

One of my earliest recollections of the reliable foundation of religious truth as I knew it being irrevocably shaken occurred when I was about eight years old. I grew up in a religious protestant household where we attended Sunday school and church and said our prayers every night. We had a baby sitter named Francine who was like a member of our family. She went to Catholic High School and was from a large catholic family of eight. I thought her to be the most beautiful, intelligent and gifted person I knew.

My parents were divorced and because my mother worked many evenings, Francine had her own bedroom in our home and stayed there during the week. She was a serious student and spent much of her time on the couch pouring over her homework. One afternoon, spurred on by both curiosity and boredom, I extensively questioned her as to what she was intently studying. Looking up from her books, she casually remarked that she was reading about how some of the events in the Bible may have been made up and not factual and real. Not quite understanding this, I asked her what that meant and she told me that the account of Noah’s ark as given in the Bible might not have really happened. I couldn’t quite believe what I was hearing. I had to know more. On further questioning she told me, in an official teenager kind of way, that people may have made up Bible stories just to teach important lessons. I was in shock. I wondered how many people knew this. Was all that I was learning in Sunday school just another adult make-believe lie? The thought that Santa Claus and the Easter bunny were made up fantasy never really bothered me. But, Moses, Noah and maybe even Jesus, not real, this was too much for me to fathom.

I continued to go to Sunday school as I had no choice. But the songs and the felt cut out religious figures that my teacher moved around on the large white board I now viewed suspiciously and without enthusiasm.

This upheaval of my religious sensibilities was the beginning of a series of events that led me to confront my preconceived ideas of not just religion, but my sense of self and purpose in life. Some surprising revelations I have embraced whole-heartedly while others, like this childhood shake-up, I have viewed with surprise and skepticism.

The Significance of Mary

Through a series of personal events that I outline in the first chapter, I now understand that the spiritual story of Mary is more than that of a simple girl who stumbled into an extraordinary happening. Underlying the biblical events which took place so long ago is a deeper story that transcends time and circumstance.

Mary was a rebel whose purpose defied the norms and restrictions of a time when women were considered inferior and second class citizens. They were not educated in the temples as were men and had no political or religious power. Mary’s day to day life most likely consisted of cooking, household chores and child rearing. Yet despite the high status of men, no Rabbis or religious elders knew of the miraculous conception and the prominent role that Mary would play in what would become world changing events. Only Joseph, the Bible tells us, Mary’s soon to be husband, was told by an angel in a dream that the child she carried was conceived by the Holy Spirit. This, the Bible explains, was only because he threatened not to marry her when he found out that she was pregnant.

Not recognized by the powers that be, Mary was given no special privileges. She rode a donkey while nine months pregnant and gave birth in a barn. Not only was Mary a young Jewish unmarried girl when she became pregnant, she had the courage and boldness to claim that her child was miraculously conceived.

It was not only during Mary’s pregnancy and Jesus’ early life that she was ignored and her role diminished. Even when Jesus was acknowledged as the Messiah, Mary’s significance and her ability to divinely co-create beyond the laws of cause and effect was devalued. Her participation in the miraculous conception was dismissed by the religious and political hierarchy as a divine fluke and a one-time only event. It had to be. If not, then the power of miraculous manifestation belongs to everyone.

Mary took God out of the temple and synagogues and placed the divine within the individual. This knowledge and awareness was a threat to the religious and political institutions. Had it been known that the power of the divine resides within self, then the power of the church as the intermediary between the heaven and earth would have been diminished. If an individual is not bound to the repetitive cycle of cause and effect and has the inherent ability to create from pure source then temples and churches have no authority and no claim to divine power. Mary’s story was hidden and has remained this way in large part for centuries.

But, Mary is still here. Her energy endures, the path she walked, you can walk. The divine energy she received, you too can receive. Mary’s ability to create from divine source makes it possible for you too to divinely co-create. Mary became pregnant while still a virgin. You, however, are more likely to co-create abundance, prosperity, loving relationships, good health and unlimited possibilities in all areas of your life. The miracle that she lived opens the door for the miraculous to come into your life.

Mary Speaks to your Life

Mary is a down to earth celestial being who is concerned with the everyday issues, concerns and circumstances of life. Not overly mystical Mary comes to assist you in co-creating what you need and desire in the here and now. She brings heaven to earth and makes it possible for each one of us to rise out of the material laws and allow divine power to manifest through us. When you align yourself with her pattern you will experience miracles. Illness is healed, bills are paid, abundance flows to you from unexpected sources, suffering is replaced by joy, fear subsides and what you need and desire appears.

Because we are used to struggle and difficulties, and generally have been taught that if something looks too good to be true, it probably is, Mary’s path to manifestation may seem too simple and easy. But you can trust the ease and simplicity of her way.

A recent encounter reminded me just how effortlessly grace and miracles can come into our lives. The material for this book came to me quickly and with the force and presence of Mary that I was unable to resist. Even so, as I got deeper into receiving her message, I began to question if I was the person to write this story. Doubts began to surface and I found myself one morning asking Mary for tangible evidence and a confirming sign. At this same time I was planning a trip to the Yucatan. I was very busy and found myself two days before I was to leave trying to figure out how I could find some time to get to the store to buy a necessary sun shielding hat and a Spanish/English dictionary. The next morning on my 5:30am walk with my dogs, I came across what I thought was trash laying in the middle of the road. It was dark and I was not able to clearly make out what it was. As I got closer I realized that the pile of trash was a cloth hat, the exact size, style and color that I wanted and two books. One book was a pocket sized Spanish-English dictionary and the other was a larger more comprehensive Spanish-English dictionary. Just three items, no more and no less and exactly what I needed. An amazing happening, yes, but I was not too surprised. This kind of manifestation is the norm with Mary. For years I have seen her handiwork in the lives of my clients, manifesting in ways such as spontaneous physical healings, money flowing in from surprising sources, the coming together of soul mates and angelic encounters that defy rational explanations. Mary is a practical and unassuming saint concerned with the everyday issues of life and this is where you will experience miracles.

Walking Mary’s Path

Within the events of Mary’s life there is a secret and powerful code that you can tap into. When Mary received the power of the heavens, directly, boldly, without fanfare and the need for outside structure and support, she set in motion a universal evolutionary pattern. Her path is a cyclical spiral that you can use to generate miracles in every condition, concern and challenging situation that you confront. The seven phases of her life, her virginity, the encounter with Archangel Gabriel, the miraculous conception, her pregnancy, the journey to Bethlehem, the birth of Jesus and her assumption, are levels of development which will lead you to co-create the life that you desire. Along the way you will learn how to connect with Mary and her angels, tune into your divine intuition, receive her grace, discern divine signs and synchronicities, generate miracles and become a channel for Mary’s love and grace for your family, friends, community and the world. The amount of time that it takes to master each level of her path will greatly vary. With some conditions and situations miracles will spontaneously occur while others may evolve over longer periods of time. By following the pattern of Mary’s life and the specific challenges and stages of growth that she encountered, you will discover the miracle worker within you.

Throughout the book I draw upon the traditional biblical recorded events of Mary’s life. However, I use the term divine presence instead of the word God when possible, as this word better embraces all faiths, religions and most spiritual beliefs as it is the all loving, compassionate, wise, source of all abundance, infinite possibilities and eternity.

I have included stories of people who have in different ways encountered and embraced the divine, Mary and the miraculous. While these accounts are true, I have changed the names and other identifying information to protect privacy.

The Time is Now

Mary’s path is as timely now as it was thousands of years ago. The world is going through profound change and transformation. The tried and true way of doing things, the foundations and outer structures that seemed so unshakable and resolute, are breaking down. The balance of power is shifting from external sources like the government, financial, medical, religious and corporate institutions to the power of the individual.

The power that is emerging is the power that Mary brought into this world so long ago. This path is about putting divine energy into action and manifestation in the here and now. It is in the cooperative exchange of the human and the divine so that balance, harmony, abundance, happiness and peace will be achieved, both individually and collectively. You do not need to be especially talented, rich, popular or worldly powerful and influential. The future belongs to those who embrace their true being. You are interconnected to a dynamic spiritual force, where in all possibilities exist.

As you become familiar with Mary’s path, you will recognize that her silent presence has been calling you, as she has me and many others, to harness your inherent power and activate the miracle worker within. Mary, the unassuming gentle girl who brought forth the Messiah, so many years ago, again leads the way to the birth of a new you and a new world.

Chapter 1

Mary and I

The presence of Mary is woven throughout my life and her influence has been a guiding force in pivotal and significant times of change and awakening. My awareness of the pattern of co-creative power hidden within the events of her life has unfolded over many years. To understand my relationship with Mary and how the material for this book was revealed to me, I introduce you to several important events that served as wake up calls.

The same power, presence and love that Mary shares with me is available to you and through my experiences my hope is that you too will become aware of her presence already at work in your life.

Cement Mary

The most significant events of my life have come to me unsought and uninvited. This is certainly true of my connection with Mary. Even though I grew up in a religious home, I never considered myself a church going and pious person. More comfortable with esoteric and nature based spiritually, even as a child I had trouble sitting still in church listening to sermons and doctrine. Yet the simple pure love of Mary has been a constant presence throughout my life.

My first memory of Mary was a concrete statue of her which sat atop the Catholic school in the small town where I grew up. Most of my friends and neighbors attended Saint Rose De Lima, a Catholic school and church. They had pictures of the Virgin Mary in their homes and cement statues of her strategically placed in their front lawns. I envied the mysterious lives of my catholic friends. Their church service, still spoken in Latin, began with a ball and chain of incense being swung up and down the main isle by an elderly and elaborately gowned priest. Placed throughout the church were statues of saints with big sunken eyes who seemed to me to be watching the devout parishioners as they said prayers to Mary with prayer beads. In contrast the most compelling feature of the Baptist church that I went to was the big dunk tank hidden under the floor in the front of the church. The few baptisms that I witnessed scared me and seemed more border line fatal than holy. In the protestant church that I attended Mary, except for Christmas time nativity scenes, was not spoken of or given much if any attention.

Despite the proliferation of religion in this town of mostly French Canadians, Italians, Puerto Ricans and Polish, the town where I grew up, was for the most part a cold and unfriendly place. I was afraid of my teachers, my parents and my friends’ parents. This was not a kid friendly environment. We were expected to follow the rules and when we didn’t punishment was quickly administered by belt, thrown brushes and name calling. Riding my bike was my great escape and my time to dream and let my imagination run wild. In my desire for understanding and comfort, I would often ride to the large Catholic Church and look up at the kind looming statue of Mary and pretend that she watched over me. From her vantage point high up above the second story school, I knew that she saw all of the injustices and unfairness that I had to endure. She offered me her condolences and kind acceptance. She was somehow familiar and even though my only awareness of her was a concrete and distant statue, I would imagine her vibrant and alive and by my side.

Early Psychic Awareness

In the next several years of grade school, then later in high school, my thoughts of Mary and religion were few. I had other bigger issues to contend with. Among them was my disturbing tendency to dream of future events and know, without knowing how I knew, what would happen the following day, week or months ahead. Yet I had little use for my growing and expanding psychic awareness and it did not at the time seem very useful or even exciting. I remember one night having a dream where an Aunt of mine complained to my mother about my thick head of unruly curly hair. This was the time of hippies and she thought that I was headed down the wrong path. In the dream I was upset and held onto my hair as if it was a priceless treasure. Sure enough within the week my mother told me that it was time to cut and tame my wild mane. She told me that some family members specifically my Aunt had mentioned it to her. As in my dream I refused to conform to their standards and my hair became a point of contention. I bring this incident up only as an example which illustrates that my psychic awareness was not necessarily profound or meaningful. It just was and I found it increasingly confusing.

Premonition

By the end of my senior year in high school I was anxious to leave my hometown and explore. I went to a small college in a mountain town in Western Massachusetts. My psychic awareness took this as an opportunity to unleash itself. What was in my youth a quirky and sometimes funny natural occurrence of knowing, seeing and experiencing paranormal events, now began to fully blossom. Dreams, precognitive awareness, telepathy and communicating with those who had passed over, crowded into my already busy and demanding schedule of classes, homework and my part time job as a dishwasher. I simply did not have the time and desire to develop and pay attention to my psychic gifts, but they would not easily let go.

In the spring semester of my second year of college, my psychic awareness reached a crescendo. Walking to the bus stop one morning I bumped into Jared who I had just been introduced to by a mutual friend the day before. We stopped to say hello and as we talked we both realized that we had a few friends in common. During the conversation I told Jared that a shared friend of ours,
