About this ebook

The Teardrop is the second in the Kenroy stories series. Corey is a classmate of Kenroy's from a badly dysfunctional household. His father is a newly released prison inmate, while his abused mother has a drug habit. Young Corey is a gifted artist struggling to find a place for himself under some rather troubling influences. The book is packaged to include talking points for Developmental Bibliotherapy, plans for individual and group facilitation, and a carefully specified creative writing exercise. "The major aspects of the story can be applied to different situations but the story line is most appropriate for teenagers who are dealing with transitions, trust, friendships. drug prevention, gangs, crime, morality, and related issues." Dr. Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson, Bibliotherapy Education Project

David Washington

David Washington holds a B. A. degree in Psychology and M. A. degree in Anthropology, the interface of culture and personality being the focus of his research and study. Throughout the years he has pursued a persistent interest, both as a writer and self-help enthusiast, in the efficacy of literature as an agent of personal development. His literature therapy publications are an outgrowth of this enthusiasm and an interest as a writer in art as for something more than its own sake.

    Introductory Note

Numerous factors come into play in effecting the life chances of young people. Among these, the family environment is often the most critical. This environment, in turn, is greatly affected by the larger social context. In The Teardrop, the interplay of these factors is depicted as they impinge upon the life of Corey. We watch as he is squeezed into the mold of the drug-infested violent environment into which he is being brought up. We see too that, despite the adverse circumstances he faces, Corey, like all human beings, seeks to express his unique gifts. Alas, these too emerge misshapen by the ambience he imbibes. No wonder that in the end, the young man
