      Numerous factors come into play in effecting the life chances of young people. Among these, the family environment is often the most critical. This environment, in turn, is greatly affected by the larger social context. In The Teardrop, the interplay of these factors is depicted as they impinge upon the life of Corey. We watch as he is squeezed into the mold of the drug-infested violent environment into which he is being brought up. We see too that, despite the adverse circumstances he faces, Corey, like all human beings, seeks to express his unique gifts. Alas, these too emerge misshapen by the ambience he imbibes.
