About this ebook
For 3 years Simone was in a tunnel with no end. Her husband Liam was dying of an incurable disease that required constant attention. During the end she hoped that Liam would be dead when she returned from work and would blame herself for having such thoughts and feeling.
Disease does not just affect the diseased. It can create pain and suffering for the caregiver, rip families apart and destroy even the best relationships. The caregiver is often the forgotten partner and their lives become a shadow to the disease. Simone talks openly and honestly about the fear, the frustration and pain of wishing it was all over. What she discovered was that she was not wrong for having these thoughts and feelings.
Filled with humor, sadness, tears and the joy of finding the light at the end of the tunnel, this story not only gives you hope but gives you tools to help you find what the lights is at the end of your tunnel.

Chapter 1: My Life Up To Now
Once upon a time I thought I wanted to live a fairytale.
I would like to introduce myself to you, the reader, before plunging into an account about a challenging part of my life. This is to give you a little bit of background in order for things to make more sense later. So in a nutshell: I was born in Germany and migrated with my father and step mum to Australia in 1980; I was 13 years old at the time. We landed in Melbourne and over the years I moved up the East Coast living in Byron Bay, Brisbane, Mackay and Cairns. I studied and became a teacher, a massage therapist, a meditation teacher, a tour guide – you name it, I can do it (within reason). I guess I can call myself a ‘Jack of all trades and master of none’. This is the short version of my life spanning 30 years in Australia.
I had three volatile and interesting relationships with three men. These relationships varied in length and they occurred consecutively not simultaneously; had they occurred at the same time, my life would probably look different now. Or perhaps I would be living in a different time, dimension, place or even culture?
Then in 1994, five years into my teaching career I met a man named Liam. We did the fast dating thing and by this I mean we went out, got drunk and started a physical relationship. He lived 200km away at that time and we commuted every weekend over 12 months. I think we were crazy. No, let me rephrase that: we are crazy. Then we moved in together and I heard that in a leap year the woman is allowed to ask the man to get married. It was 1996, I popped the question,
