About this ebook

Jenna and Andi Tikaani-Gray are hoping for a fresh start. Though twelve year-old Andi has long struggled with a rare medical disorder, she and her mother have finally received good news from out-of-town specialists. It's news they desperately needed, especially after the recent death of Jenna's husband (Andi's dad) in a car accident.

But as they are flying home to Alaska, ready to begin again, the unthinkable happens. The pilot sabotages their small plane and crashes into Sultana, one of the most remote and dangerous mountains in the Land of the Midnight Sun. Even worse, a winter storm is headed their way along with someone who doesn't want to save them, but to kill them.

Only one man can keep them alive: Cole Maddox, the mysterious last-minute passenger who joined them on their flight. But trust doesn't come easy to Jenna or AndiÑand they both sense Cole is hiding something.

A relentless tale of survival and suspense unfolds, involving military technology designed by Jenna's late husband that some would do anything to possess.

I received this book as part of the early reviewers program. It is a great story. It has lots of action, romance and the authors have put in a lot of small details that make the story seem very realistic. (Bits that they have drawn from their own experiences). It was a light fast read and the story kept me engrossed all the way through.

Couldn't finish it. Poorly written with an overabundance of exclamation marks and the change of voice from chapter to chapter was too hard to follow.

DNF - I actually made it to page 108/ 333 as the story was intriguing and I kept hoping it would be better than it was. However, the dialogue was incredibly painful as it was so unnatural and the characters were unbelievable. A man and woman who have no reason to trust each other, the man obviously keeping secrets, are falling in love after knowing each other for one day and the daughter suddenly can't imagine life without him? Many more inconsistencies and irritations not worth the time to mention. Couldn't take it anymore so gave up.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher. To be honest I did not finish it and had to tell the publisher it was not for me. I rarely find a book that I absolutely can not get into or really dislike but this was one. I did not care for the mixed writing style and found it difficult to tell when it was a flash back, when the mom was talking, or the daughter. Now they have another one out - Surprise it is basically the same plot! A mother and sick daughter - and (surprise) a murdered father. Again in the snow packed hills of Alaska! Hmmmm.....wonder if it will be any better. I think they would be better off just writing about their own journey through the illness of Kayla and how that has affected their life. I am beginning to wonder if there is a father involved in real life - or if this mother daughter team has had the loss of the father and the illness to deal with.

This book sat on my TBR shelf for over a year. Reflecting, I'm kicking myself in the ass for that. This is an amazing book!Y'know when an author like Tricia Goyer is quoted as saying, "I'd only made it to page 8 when I realized I was holding my breath.", you know it is good. It was page 10 when I realized how true that statement was, for I had been doing it too. A fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat story, where the little girl steals the show. For one person to have so much perseverance, strength and integrity at such a young age is rare indeed. Especially today. Some fantastic morals and love of God is displayed too.

I received No Safe Haven and immediately thought this would be a great book for my book club. Well I was right -- the feedback from the members of my group has been very positive. But . . . I really didn't like it as well as the other members. It followed the typical formula for a romantic suspense novel. People in trouble, they become attracted to each other through the crisis, they fight the attraction, then give into it. And because this is christian romantic suspense, one of the characters has a salvation experience. Now, I am an evangelical christian and have no problem with the gospel being presented in a novel, but the message seemed a bit heavy handed for my taste. Not a book that non-christians would probably pick up. So overall, I would not recommend it.

The mother-daughter team of Kimberley and Kayla Woodhouse has written a heck of a page-turner with No Safe Haven. It's got a bit of everything - suspense, intrigue, action, romance, all undergirded with a strong theme of Christian belief. The main characters, Jenna, Andie, and Cole, all struggle with something they must overcome - fear, the elements, injury, being willing to let down walls and let other people in. The suspense had me anxious to see what happened next. If you're a fan of Dee Henderson's O'Malley series, you should give this a read. Although having part of the story told from the point of view of a preteen girl gives it a slightly different flavor than Henderson's novels, No Safe Haven has that same suspenseful quality I enjoyed so much in the O'Malley series.

No Safe Haven was a quick page turner. It had action, it had romance, it had a bit of humor thrown in, and it had faith. I loved the relationships between Andie and Cole, and Andie and her mother. And for some reason it made me want M&Ms. Aha.

From the publicity information: A young widow and her physically challenged daughter survive a plane crash in the Alaskan mountains but must puzzle together how it relates to the recent death of their husband and father. Written by a mother and her teenage daughter whose rare medical condition led to their family’s story being shared with millions on the hit ABC television program Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Elements of their real-life story are worked into this exciting novel.I did a little better with this effort from B&H Publishing than I did with its predecessor, but I gave on this at 130 pages. The text reads very much like teenaged writing – the chapters are far too short as the narrative bounces back and forth between the three main characters in tiny bursts, and there must have been some heavy fingers on the exclamation point key given their liberal use.The adventure is set up far too quickly, as is the romance, and I have yet to figure out where the Native Alaskan aspect fits into things…Confusing. Promising, but too confusing to continue with.

This was a fun read. Kudos to this mom and daughter team for their accomplishment. Incorporating Kayla's nerve disorder into the story through the character of Andie was an interesting twist, and the authors presentation of the gospel message of redemption was well done. I'll be looking for more from this team in the future. I have a feeling they will get better and better

This book has everything in it that I enjoy. It has mystery, romance, and all with a good dose of Christian living thrown in. If you are not into Christian fiction, this book is not for you. It follows a mother and daughter through a plane crash and subsequent events relating to their rescue from bad guys who want to kill them. The daughter is very vocal about her faith. Through their misadventures, she trusts God and leads two men to their own relationship with God. She has a nerve disease and her father has died and yet she and her mother cling to their faith. Love the story line and love that it all takes place in Alaska.

Jenna and Andi are hoping to make a new start after the death of Jenna's husband and Andi's father, Marc. Andi who is 12 yrs old is struggling with a medical disorder (HSAN). On a flight home to Alaska, the small plane they are in is sabatoged by the pilot and crashes into a mountain. I loved this book and enjoyed every page. I would definitely read more by this mother and daughter team.

I really wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, I found the book to be over-emotional with unrealistic characters. I think it would have been something my 10-year-old self liked. No Safe Haven is like much of Christian romance fiction nowadays - contrived and fake.

It was an Early Reviewers copy, and I must admit I requested the book because I was mainly attracted by the setting: Alaska, Denali National Park, a crash in the mountains, and the themes of survival and perseverance. The information it was Christian fiction was either not there, or I must have skipped over it, as I would have never thought it was for me. Christian fiction is not something I would read out of my volition. Still, since I requested it, I decided to read it, and I must say that the story did keep me interested. It had a good mixture of suspense, drama and romance, and the style had certain exuberance to it. It’s impressive that it’s written by a mother and an adolescent daughter team as well, and I think it would really appeal to adolescent Christian readers. Overall, not a bad read.

This is the story of three people who have survived a plane crash in the mountains of Alaska - a mother, daughter and a stranger. Together they must elude unknown enemies who are trying to kill them while they also try to get to safety. To complicate matters, the daughter suffers from a rare medical disorder. The authors are a mother and daughter. The daughter has the same disorder as the daughter in the story so this part of it was written with true understanding. Although I enjoyed the story and the role that the characters' faith played in it, I did not feel it was especially well written. Some of the writing was choppy and it felt like the authors tried to speed the ending up. Overall though, I would recommend it as a light read.

No Safe HavenThis book was written by a mother/daughter team. It is a Christian Fiction/Suspense book. It starts out where Jenna and Andie (the mother and daughter) are in a small plane and it crashes into the side of a mountain. Cole, another passenger, but stranger, knows someone is after them to kill them. Apparently they are on the side of the largest mountains in Alaska. Andie, the daughter, has some spunk to her, being a teenager. You gotta love that. It was the treacherous track of trying to save themselves from whomever it was, and wherever they were they did not know, from the people who were after their lives. This book is filled with action and circumstances well beyond their control. It is how they do or don’t deal with these occurrences that they get through this all. This book was okay. I probably would not have chosen to read it on my own. The story is a little far-fetched in what ‘the bad guys’ wanted. I really didn’t understand why that was woven into the story. The story could have gone many ways, even just a plane crash and trying to survive from it, but did they throw in the part about someone trying to kill them to make the book ‘suspense’? It would have been suspense enough just trying to get off the side of the mountain with a strange man they didn’t know, and didn’t know if his abilities to help them could be trusted, let alone throwing into the plot someone trying to kill them.I do have to give the mother/daughter team writers credit for writing a flowing book. The book was not choppy at all. It read smoothly and nicely. I could see more books coming from this writing team, but please don’t throw in the type of suspense of someone trying to kill the characters. As stated, I would have enjoyed this book just as much had they just tried to get off the mountain to safety.I give this book 3 star.

This was an early reviewer book and it was awesome. The mother-daughter team had actually experienced some of the terrors of HSAN and Chiari that Andi had. Jenna and Andi were on a plane in Alaska when it crashed on a mountain. Caught in a blizzard, surrounded by peoople they couldn't trust, and injured, they trusted in God to help them survive. The plot was scarey and could very well be true as the country's safety was compromised by people they trusted - even the dead husband and father. I wouldn't stop reading and at the same time was reviled - it seemed so true.

I received a free copy of this book through the Early Reviewers program, and I really enjoyed it. It has a little bit of everything, combining survival, suspense, espionage, spirituality and romance, but everything is well-balanced, so you won't be overwhelmed with the spirituality if you're not religious, or you won't get lost in the details of government plotting if you're not into spy novels. The author creates likeable and interesting characters, and you can identify with them as they learn to care for and trust each other even as they struggle with their own personal problems. Twelve year old Andie is realistic and easy to relate to, and the practical details and effects of her medical condition are fascinating. Cole, a hardened and jaded veteran, is just as realistic and he shows you the story from a completely different perspective. Even the peripheral characters seemed realistic and somehow familiar, as if you had run into them before. Although the characters seem real, the story is a little bit farfetched, but it is also fast paced and engrossing. It starts with a plane crash in the mountains, and it keeps you reading until the exciting, if somewhat predictable end. All in all, this is a fun, enjoyable and fast-paced book to read with memorable characters that will appeal to a wide range of readers.

Kimberley and Kayla R. Woodhouse have put together an indelible thriller that will keep your heart pounding, yet uplifting and heartwarming at the same time. With trials and tribulations enough to make Job's miseries seem almost trivial in comparison, this intrepid trio face incredible odds against survival while their Christian faith stays strong, at least for two of them. The third member of the party will come to it but has two injured "girls" to rescue off one of the highest, steepest mountains in Denali park in an Alaskan winter, all the while being pursued by terrorists who are looking for something they believe the mother has information on, and then to leave no witnesses alive. They are out to kill these three and they are very good at what they do, leaving no trace. This book is a wonderful story of faith and survival, but it is also full of tips for survival woven into the story, and an awareness of a rare neural disorder that can be deadly in a matter of moments, a disorder that one of the authors actually suffers from. I was aware of this disorder, but learned more for which I'm grateful to the authors. So, we have a mixed bag in this book Terrorists, a man who has lost too much in his life and must learn to live again, a fast-paced, wild ride of a thriller, a 12 year old girl, Andie, with a rare disorder of unimaginable consequences, families disrupted by death, a love story, and deep, inspiring faith. What sounds like a very complicated story is actually a book that I couldn't put down. Action-packed from the moment the plane they were flying home in is sabotaged and crashes high on Sultana Mountain to the final murderous attempt. The plane was originally owned by Andi's father Marc until his murder, and now is owned by her mother, Jenna. It was flown by Hank, a "trusted" friend of Marc and Jenna prior to Marc's death. Who was the mysterious last minute passenger? After he took over piloting the plane when the radio was shot out, what caused him to pass out? Was he responsible for the crash or was he trying to correct the damage? Can Jenna and Andie trust him? When Jenna took over piloting she realized that none of the controls were responding. That there would be a crash was inevitable.I took away so much more from the book than just a great story. Living in the north myself, I found the survival techniques very useful, especially how to keep warm through the bitterly cold nights and what to have with you for survival preparation. I also took away a refreshing of my faith. I applaud the authors for the smoothness with which they wrote this book, the interaction of the characters, more noticeable because of the manner in which the chapters are written, the heart-pounding action, the exciting plot, and pulling it all together so believably. The chapters are told mostly by the three main characters in the first person, almost giving a feeling that the reader is invested in the story. I look forward to more from this author pair, mother and daughter. This is the duo's debut as a writing team, and an exceptional one.

This is a quick read, a page turner, possibly more suited to the Young Adult genre. The mystery starts at page one - why are people out to kill this family? After their plane is deliberately crashed in the mountains of Alaska, it becomes a somewhat unrealistic struggle for survival, conveniently with lots of supplies so they don't go hungry or thirsty, but having to avoid the "bad guys" as well as survive in the snow and treat their injuries. The Christian part of the story is well integrated into the characters, particularly 12-year-old Andie, but does get a bit preachy at times. Andie has a medical condition (shared by the teenage co-author) which means that she can't feel pain or regulate her temperature and it was interesting to find out about this and how to cope with it. The character of Andie seems to ring most true - the adult characters seem far less developed. I would say I enjoyed the book for it's page-turning quality, but I generally like my mysteries to have better characterization. If you want to read an excellent mystery series set in Alaska, I highly recommend the mysteries of author Stan Jones.

The two words that come to mind when I think of No Safe Haven is "Totally Awesome". This mother/daughter duo has delivered a heart-pounding adventure, loaded with memorable characters, edge of your seat suspense and sweet romance. It's a tale that will stay with you long after your close the book.Jenna and her daughter Andie are trying to move on with their life. It has been a year since Marc was killed. Andie, who has always suffered from a rare nerve disorder, just got good news from the doctor. While flying back home their pilot sabotages their private plane and they crash into a high part of a remote mountain in Alaska. Cole Maddox was on the plane because of a promise he made to Marc. He needs to keep Jenna and Andie safe but they're having a hard time trusting him. To make matters worse a snow storm is brewing and headed their way. I've got to say this story kept me flipping pages from beginning to end. I really didn't get anything done because each page held me spellbound. You become totally involved from the very first page. The characters were so well drawn and the dialog was superb. One thing that I really enjoyed was Andie's simple faith and the way that it affected everyone she was around. It was so uplifting and encouraging. I loved the tension between Cole and Jenna. It just felt tangible to me. The description of the mountain and the snow storm was so good that it made me shiver. I also like the way the story was layed out with the date/time and thoughts of each character. Reading about how the rare nerve disorder affects daily living was very thought provoking. I highly recommend No Safe Haven. I look forward to Race Against Time. Great Job Kimberley and Kayla!!! A thank you goes to LibraryThing for providing this complementary copy for my review.

I really enjoyed this book. Written as part thriller and part Christian fiction, it also deals with living with a rare chronic illness. Jenna and Andie's characters were very vivid and the novel is fast paced and engaging. The language is on the simplistic side, but as the book is co written by a teenager, that is to be expected. It is this teenager, Kayla, who who gives Andie's character life...for it is she who suffers with the autonomic condition HSAN. There can be no better judge of how this affects Andie. Both Mother and Daughter find themselves stranded on a freezing snow covered mountain after the plane they are travelling in crashes. Still reeling from the death of Jenna's husband/Andie's Father, coping with the desperate situation they are in proves challenging to say the least. This is exacerbated by their injuries and Andie's life threatening illness. Thankfully they have help in the form of Major Cole Maddox who keeps them safe and aids their ultimate rescue. Jenna and Andie are committed Christians and their faith is their greatest protector. Convincing Cole of that is somewhat more tricky.Altogether an enjoyable and interesting novel.

Jenna and her daughter Andie are flying home after a hospital visit for Andie, who has a rare medical condition. The pilot deliberately sabotages their small plane which then crashes on the side of a mountain in Denali National Park. Cole Maddox, friend of Jenna’s husband and last minute passenger on the plane, vows to protect Marcus’ family after Marcus is murdered by the same people Marcus and Cole both used to work for. This shadowy military group has turned rogue and murders Marcus for the software he refuses to hand over to the highest bidder. By protecting the United States and Marcus’ family, Cole must keep Jenna and Andie alive while dodging the enemy and using their collective survival skills to get them off the mountain to find the missing software. Andie and Jenna help Cole by knowing skills taught to them by living in Alaska and also relying on their faith in God to help themselves as well as Cole, who is having a crisis in faith with the death of his own wife and daughter.I enjoyed the Alaskan setting as well as the survival skills needed to get Cole, Jenna and Andie off the mountain in Denali National Park. Andie’s many medical issues, one of which is not being able to sweat, gives a new twist to this survival story. Author Kayla, also has the same medical condition, which adds interest to the story. Part thriller and part Christian fiction, this book appears to be the first in a new series.

What a fresh wonderful book. I enjoyed the christian viewpoint and the mixture of education about the medical problems of this young girl. I did not want to put this book down until I finished the adventure. I thought the last third of the book was not as strong as the first two thirds. For someone who likes action/adventure I thought the struggle on the mountain was the strongest part. This was a Early Reviewers copy that I waited a long time for it to arrive. Well worth the wait. Thanks for the adventure.

First off I want to thank LibraryThing Early Reviewers for sending me this book to review and secondly I want to give a BIG 2 thumbs up to the Woodhouse mother/daughter team for writing such a good, exciting and Christ-centered book!!! I will look forward to reading your next book when it comes out, so keep up your excellent work!Janna and Andie TIkaani-Gray are trying to make a fresh start after losing their husband/dad in a terrible car accident. But things start to go terribly wrong when on a small plane flying home to Alaska their loyal pilot seeks to sabotage their small plane. If not for the passenger riding along next to the pilot, no one would probably have lived. But because of Cole Maddox, the last-minute passenger, they are alive and stranded on the top of a remote mountain with a winter storm headed their way and possibly more men out to kill the two ladies. Cole seems to know what is going on, but can they really trust him with their lives? And why are there people who are after Jenna and Andie??I liked so many things about this story. I liked the way it kept the time and place and the thoughts of each character in short segments throughout the story. I liked the "spunk" that little Andie had and her trusting nature, her love for people and concern for their eternal abode. She was a young girl who had alot she could have complained about and been angry about, but she had a beautiful way of trusting God and being happy with who she was. I also liked the way this family had an impact on Cole and the struggles he had and how you could understand where these people were coming from and went through their struggles with them. There was alot of action, adventure, suspense and I liked the way Colleen Coble summarized this book, it is "a nail-biting delight of a romantic suspense novel. I think that really sums up what you will find when you read this story. It was hard for me to put this book down, so block out some time to enjoy!

Absolutely fantastic!!! A hold your breath-can't put it down novel that will make you feel you are right there in the middle of the action. The best book I've read this year and probably the best I will read all year!
