Superman sped past stars and planets and asteroids. He was in hot pursuit of a warrior woman named Mala.

Mala, like Superman, was born on the planet Krypton. Both of them had amazing superpowers. Kryptonians could hear and see more sharply than any human. They could also fly at super-speed, shrug off bullets, and lift entire mountains.

Superman used his powers to help people. Mala, however, simply wanted to make them her slaves.

On Krypton, she had helped a general named Jax-Ur try to take over the planet. Krypton’s leaders had punished them both by putting them into the Phantom Zone, a universe of pain and loneliness.
