I am one half of the team behind STATE OF SHOP, an online shopping website that finds the best fashion from around the world and shares it with others. I'm a television producer in Australia by day, and an online shopping enthusiast by night... Here's more about me, my partner in shopping, Cathy Riddett and how STATE OF SHOP came about: STATE OF SHOP was born out of a love for online shopping, but also from a frustration at the lack of community surrounding it. We’re convinced that for every single occasion, no matter how big or small, you can find the perfect something to wear online. We're here to answer one of the world wide web's big questions: “Where can I buy one of those?” Part shopping directory, part blog, part online guide, STATE OF SHOP is a hub for women who love to buy fashion on the net. And most importantly, this is the place where our SOS Guidebooks come to life. Co-founders Keely Sonntag and Cathy Riddett are the ones keeping STATE OF SHOP up to date, while also researching (and shopping) as many stores as humanly possible for the guidebooks. Both experienced television producers, Keely and Cathy first met on the set of Big Brother in 2008 where they bonded over cheap wine, vegetarian pizza and non-PG shower scenes (in the Big Brother house). Four years and numerous TV gigs later, the girls were reunited on the Gold Coast for the ninth instalment of Big Brother Australia. In between Dreamworld rides, editing packages and producing live shows, Keely and Cathy started swapping online shopping stories. By the time the series wrapped, the concept for STATE OF SHOP was in full flight, and now our vision has come to fruition in the form of a comprehensive online shopping guidebook. We have big plans for more guidebooks - Top 100 Online Shoe Stores, Top 50 Online Accessories Stores, Top 20 Online Beauty Stores... the possibilities are incredible, and we're excited to keep shopping!

State of Shop Guidebook - Keely Sonntag
why you need this book
If you’re reading this STATE OF SHOP guidebook, we can safely assume you’re one of two types of people:
Someone who already loves shopping online and wants to know where the world’s best clothing stores can be found on the internet, or…
Someone who would like to shop online for clothes, but needs a bit of guidance and support to do it.
Whether you’re an online shopping novice or a seasoned pro, this one valuable resource will ensure you never have to search blindly for an online shop, wonder whether your purchase will show up, or go digging for customer service information ever again.
And that’s because WE have done all the hard work for you!
The STATE OF SHOP team has spent countless hours shopping and reviewing hundreds of fashion websites from all around the world. The result is a carefully researched and thoroughly tested Top 100 list
of the best online clothing stores that ship to Australia. And as a bonus, we’ve also included our Top 10 list of intimates and swimwear stores
. In our search for these 110 super shops, there were hundreds that didn’t meet our strict criteria
, so we’re extremely proud to present you with the crème de la crème right here.
You can be assured if a store makes it on this list, then a member of the STATE OF SHOP team has personally shopped there.
All of the stores in our Top 100 and Top 10 have been specifically tested for Australian shoppers, however most of them ship internationally as well. This means all costs referenced in the directory are in Australian dollars unless we indicate otherwise. Some stores only operate in their local currency, such as US dollars, euros (€), or British pounds (£), but that doesn’t mean you can’t shop there!
who is ‘the team’?
We should probably introduce ourselves so you know a little bit about the people who compiled this Top 100 list for you. Our names are Keely Sonntag and Cathy Riddett and we’re the co-founders of the online shopping community, STATE OF SHOP. We’re also the key contributors of this guidebook, along with a team of dedicated researchers, editors and designers who helped bring it all together.
While we’re both television producers by trade and have seen our fair share of wardrobe malfunctions, you should know we don’t have any fashion or design training. But that’s ok, because this is NOT a book about fashion, it’s a book about online shopping and luckily for you we’re mad for it.

why shop online?
If you’re new to the game and still have lingering doubts about shopping online, here are our top five reasons to get on board:
THE CONVENIENCE. Shop from anywhere, at any time and from any number of devices – online stores never close.
THE REACH. No matter where you live you can shop all over the world, from the biggest department stores in New York, to a small boutique in New Zealand and everywhere in between.
THE SAVINGS. Having access to international stores also means benefiting from international prices, which are often a lot less than those in Australia.
THE BUZZ. Everyone’s heard of retail therapy; well, it’s no different shopping online. You still get a thrill from browsing virtual shelves, checking-out via a cyber-cart, and of course, opening that special delivery.
EVERYONE’S DOING IT. According to an NAB report, online sales reached $12.3 billion in Australia for the year ending June 2013 (that’s an annual growth of 26 per cent). Another survey found 93 per cent of Australians access the internet daily, averaging 22 hours online a week, with 88 minutes of that dedicated to online shopping!
now what?

Okay, we’ve got the introductions out of the way, now what? Even if you’re an experienced online shopper we suggest taking a quick look at the next chapter – How to Use This
State of Shop
Guidebook
, so you can get the most out of it.
Or if you’re ready to start shopping, then you can head straight to our Top 100 Store
Name Directory
, our Price Directory
or the Quick Reference Style Guide
.
in a nutshell
This guidebook is all about online shopping, so of course we’ve designed it specifically to be read online. If you’re connected to the internet, there are links that will take you from your computer, e-reader, tablet or mobile phone straight to the store you want, all in a matter of seconds. We’ve also integrated easy-to-recognise icons
, and a Quick Reference Style Guide
to help you find the stores you need in a flash.
In this chapter we’ll briefly (no need for too much exposition when there’s shopping to be done) tell you how we selected our Top 100 and also explain how to use this book to its full advantage.
In a nutshell it works like this:
You decide if you want to find a clothes store based on the shop name, your budget, your style or a specific occasion.
If you want to search by shop name , then go to the A-Z Store Name Directory
.
If you want to search based on your budget , then go to the Price Directory
.
