      Introduction

      I am a pastor. Like any pastor, I care about people. I realized a long time ago that the mission of my life is to help people grow closer to Jesus. That’s what I want to be about, and that’s the reason for this book: I’m writing it because the people I have a special charge to give spiritual nurture and care to, those whom God has placed under my trust, those who want to be closer to Jesus, have a desire to know and do His will.

      This only makes sense. We call ourselves Christians; we are followers of Jesus Christ. That means He is our leader. As our leader, certainly He has specific desires and plans for each one of us. Yet, as I’m sure you’ve experienced, life is full of choices— many of them very important choices. Which ones should we choose? How do we evaluate the options before us? After all, as Christians we recognize that we are not living primarily for our own pleasure or success in this life on earth, but rather to please Him.
