What is the 17 Day Diet?

This diet has a focus on good fats, probiotics, lean proteins, and anti-oxidant rich produce.  Other good habits are incorporated into this diet in order to result in healthy habits and weight loss.

Sugar is banned, along with salty or fried foods, and processed foods.  In the early stages of the diet, one cannot have alcohol, starchy vegetables, or high sugar fruits. 

This diet cycles through four stages as indicated above, “accelerate”, “activate”, “achieve”, and “arrive”. Each cycle has unique characteristics that allow the dieter to have variety to reach their weight loss goal. 

Once the goal is achieved, the maintenance phase allows for indulgences on the weekends, as long as five pounds is not gained.  The dieter must begin again with the second cycle if more than five pounds is gained.

    Introduction

    Mike Moreno, MD, is the author of The 17 Day Diet.    There are other books that Dr. Moreno has written such as The 17 Day Diet Breakthrough, The 17 Day Diet Workbook, and The 17 Day Diet Cookbook.  

    Dr. Moreno has also written The 17 Day Plan to Stop Aging.  These books are available in Spanish as well as English.   This diet’s focus is to allow one to build new healthy habits, shed unwanted pounds, and increase the metabolism resulting in ultimate fat loss.  

    The diet consists of cycles that each last for 17 days, and by changing the calorie intake, along with adding slightly more fat, the body isn’t sure what is next.  By doing this, the body remains in a fat burning state because the body is never sure how much food it will have to process.  

    There are four cycles of 17 days each, and this diet does require exercise and a focus on good foods.  The author calls the calorie shifting body confusion, and this is the basis of the diet…keeping the focus on altering what one eats so the body never settles in a state of homeostasis.
