Painting of Guru Amardas Sahib Ji by Bhai Bodhi Ji

Shri Guru Amardas Sahib Ji is the third Guru of the Sikhs. Guru Sahib was born on 5th of May, 1479, in a small village of Basarke Gillan in Amritsar district. Some other chronicles suggest that Guru Ji was born in April, 1479.

Guru Ji’s father Tej Bhan Bhalla and mother Bhakt Kaur were orthodox Hindus. His mother is also referred to as Sulakhni Devi and Lakhmi Devi. His mother and father were devoted Hindus and every year they visited the Ganges River in Haridwar to take their holy dip in the river water.

Guru Sahib had a very happy childhood with his devoted Hindu parents, however, as he grew up he began to show some signs which definitely pointed to his wisdom and thought.

Guru Sahib was married to Mata Mansa Devi Ji. Guru Amardas Ji and Mata Mansa Devi Ji had four children. They had two sons named Mohan Ji and Mohri Ji. Their two daughters were named Bibi Dani Ji and Bibi Bhani Ji.
