Introduction
The Hugs from Heaven Series is written with one purpose in mind: to make God’s love more real and refreshing to your heart and spirit than ever before. The book is divided into topical sections consisting of a paraphrased scripture, an inspirational message, a poignant saying, and a fictional story based on a particular passage of scripture. Even though the narrative is fictional, and the writer takes a creative course with the story, the biblical truths are uncompromised. Favorite Bible stories take on new meaning as you are transported to the scene to explore the thoughts and feelings of the men and women who were touched by heaven’s embrace in a special way. May the message in this book, and all of the Hugs from Heaven books, bring honor to our God and praise to the Savior, Jesus Christ.

His Restoring Embrace
Don’t discouraged. I’m close to the brokenhearted, and I specialize in rescuing you when you’re crushed in spirit. Your weakness is the perfect opportunity for my power to shine. Meanwhile, I give you my all-sufficient grace. Your God of deliverance
—from Psalm 34:18; Corinthians 12:9
Dear Lord, give me the grace to remember that you are ready to embrace me, if I am willing to take one step toward you.
—John Cowan
Somewhere along the way we’ve latched on the idea that broken is bad. It probably started in our childhood when we got the glare for breaking Aunt Wilma’s Waterford crystal or when the angry neighbor came over to ask if we knew about his shattered living room window. Maybe it was reinforced when we heard a parent yell, Do you have any idea how much that toy costs!
However it happened, we learned our lesson; broken things really bother and embarrass us. We wear hats on bad hair days, hide broken fingernails, dump sour marriages, and avoid hospital visits. It’s funny when you think about it. We’re born into a cracked up, broken-down world. You’d think we’d feel more at home in it. Jesus did. Of all people, you’d think he’d have a problem with anything less than perfection. But Jesus seemed attracted to it! In fact, he made it pretty clear he hadn’t come to visit the neatly put together types. The sickly, unseemly ones drew his attention. Christ
