So good! I butterflying could not put this one down. I think I liked this one better than Slammed.

I Butterflying love this book. It was so happy and sad at the same time. Only Colleen can use the word butterfly the way she did. It really made me laugh. I love Kierstan's character. I can't wait to see what Colleen does for the third book.

Just when I thought I could not love Colleen Hoover more, I read this book. I was afraid this would be a let down compared to Slammed, but oh mama it wasn't! This book had my emotions all twisted up and the all surprises really caught me off guard. Colleen Hoover has perfected the formula of new adult books & I can't wait to read some more of her novels!

booknook — Young Adult book reviewsIf you read my review of Slammed, you'll know that I quite enjoyed the book. But I really wish I had just stopped there and savoured my good memories. I did not like Point of Retreat. Throughout the entire book I felt like I was constantly rolling my eyes or thinking "Really?" Point of Retreat is so over dramatic. I feel like every possible bad thing that could have happened, did happen. In fact, there were so many bad things that it felt a little unrealistic. And then there was Layken...In my review of Slammed, I talked about how Layken was an immature, annoying teenager when she got mad. This happened again in Point of Retreat, and caused me to really dislike the main conflict in the story. The whole story basically came down to this:
"How do you know? How do you really know? You couldn't leave me now if you wanted to. Your heart is too good for that, you would never do that to me. So how do I know that you would really be here if our circumstances were different? If our parents were alive and we didn't have Kel and Caulder, how do you know you would even love me?"—Layken in Point of RetreatThe whole conflict is really just one big "what if" game. If their circumstances were completely different, would they have still fallen in love? Layken is concerned that Will only loves her because they both experienced similar traumas. She's afraid that if neither of their parents had died, Will wouldn't love her. Well my opinion is: who cares? Why spend so much time worrying about what would have been, if that's not the case? Will obviously loves Layken right now, and that should be all that matters.. but Layken doesn't see it that way. It's like me crying and yelling at my boyfriend because I'm afraid he wouldn't have loved me if we first met in person instead of online. I told him that and we both agreed it would be absurd to even think/worry about that. The whole thing was so immature and so childish. I could have gotten over it if that was one minor concern in the book, but that was the entire central conflict. I actually feel really sorry for Will because of all the crap Layken made him go through.. and over what? Nothing! Some stupid idea that he might not love her in some alternate hypothetical universe.I do have to admit that the end of Point of Retreat made me smile. The last quarter of the book still had its fair share of drama and ridiculous "unfortunate events" (I say ridiculous just because there were so many). But the absolute end did put a smile on my face.I'm sad to be saying this, but I do wish I hadn't read Point of Retreat. If I hadn't, I'd just be left with fond memories of Layken and Will. I think that having read Point of Retreat will make me forget the whole series much more quickly than I would have otherwise.

After I finished reading Slammed, I had to know what happened next!

I think I love Will even more than I thought possible. I couldn't put this one down as soon as I started it. I finished it within hours.
I loved being able to see the interactions with everyone and I butterflying adore Kiersten. She was a great addition to the group. I kind out wanted to shake the heck outta Layken in this one though. Girl seriously needs to quit carving so many damn pumpkins! I missed Julia big time. More than I thought I would. But there were so many times that she was needed. I was so glad for the stars. Once again Colleen Hoover has made me laugh and cry with one of her stories. The Slams were great and pulled at my heart again in this one, maybe even more than they did in Slammed. Another 5 read!

This book is great! I love it. But I love Slammed better. Just when I thought I couldn't love Will's character more, I was wrong. I love how much he loves Lake and how he proved it to her. Let's just say that the standards and expectations I had for my future "guy" just increased a thousand fold because of Will. Haha! Anyways, Slammed was really really awesome and better but I still love Point of Retreat.

And the Story Continues!!!
Layken and Will are now on their own, following the death of Layken's mom. Layken's mom left them an amazing gift -- a jar full of tidbits of advice and the directions to take one tidbit when they really I need her help while raising the boys.
This sequel isn't quite as moving as Slammed!, and yet it is in a different sense. I'm not sure whether Layken would truly be able to keep her brother with her after their mother's passing, but setting that aside and the fact that Layken and Will behave as if they are 5-10 years older than they are supposed to be, the story is like visiting with friends that will prove to be life-long friends - the kind you'd be blessed to have if you have one for every finger on one hand!
I am impatiently waiting for Will's point of view in This Girl.
Thank you, Simon & Shuster for my Net Galley Point of Retreat ebook!

Will and Lake agreed to wait one year before getting "together, together" and just as that date rolls around, enter Will's ex. The girl that puts doubt into Lake about her & Will's relationship. A night planned for goodness, turns horribly wrong and Will has to fight to prove their love is more than caused by circumstances. Not sharing more because I'm not going to spoil the story...When I first started reading this book (granted - I have not read Slammed either), I keep picturing Will & Lake as younger than they are. After initial few chapters (getting all of the characters figured out, a little backstory added, etc.), I was hooked just before the ex entered the main picture. Great read! Relationship between Lake & Will (as well as the story) is interesting, loved the humor the kids added (not butterflying joke there!) And fell in love with Will there at the end... Disappointed I didn't read Slammed first now though.I received this book in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley.

This is the second book in the Will and Layken story by Colleen Hoover I was given the opportunity to read it by Net Galley and Simon and Schuster. Will and Layken have survived the past year but will they survive the coming year and each other. For them to move ahead they have to look at what they left behind and deal with it accordingly.

I need a Will. It's been determined.
Will and Layken's story continues when Vaughn (WTF kind of name is that? Seriously?) turns up in Will's class. She immediately tries to flirt and get him to take her back. She even shows up at his house, right as he's getting ready to get away for the weekend together.
That, naturally, puts a damper on things, especially when Vaughn plants doubts in Layken's mind. The bitch.
Will, heartbroken yet determined, is doing everything he can to get her back. Only the night he DOES get her back, fate's throwing them another curve ball. A life and death kind of curve ball.
It's just beautifully written. Laughs, tears, family, adoration, love, love and love.
Recommended!

I think Colleen Hoover is slowly becoming one of my favorite authors. This is the third book by her that I have read, and I've enjoyed each one. This story picks up where Slammed ended, but is told from Will's POV rather than that of Lake. Now that Will is no longer her teacher, you would think things would be easy for both of them. You would be wrong. Now they're dealing with Will's ex wanting to get back in his life, Will's childhood best friend needing a place to stay, getting a college education, raising their trouble-making younger brothers, and all the drama and secrets that those things seem to entail for them.I enjoyed the book, but I felt like it could have been a little stronger. It was cute and funny and heart-breaking, but it was also a bit flat during some parts of the story. I still feel like it is absolutely worth reading and I have a feeling that people who enjoyed other books by Hoover, or by authors within the New Adult spectrum, would really like this book.

I guess Slammed is more touching than this !

Oh wow! Another butterflying great book! I am honestly in love with Will Cooper! Every girl hopes to be loved the way he loves Lake. Completely and deeply. He wasn't the overbearing, ultra alpha male type but he still held an intensity that made me giddy. Sometimes I wanted to grab Lake by the arms and shake her but I did kind of see her point, maybe not to extreme that she took it though. I loved their mix match family. I truly believe that biology is not the only thing that makes a family. I also loved the relationship between the kids, friends and the neighbors. Who wouldn't want to live on their street! There were so many good moments, some that made me laugh out loud, cry out loud, and even blush a few times. Love, Love, Love it!

Probably more of a 2.5 as there were parts that really impressed me and parts that made me want to count to a million just for something to do.
Kiersten was my tipping point. If her utterly brilliant personality hadn't been around, I would have given up with this one.
Basically, Point Of Retreat does the same thing as Slammed . It deals with some very serious topics but shrouds them in this YA nonsense. Maybe the point is that I'm not in my teens, but it still felt childish in parts.

Loved this one, particularly the slams this time around. I teared up for just about all of them, Will's to Lake, Kiersten's to the bullies, and Caulder's to Will. I did want to smack the taste out of Lake's mouth a few times, when she refused to even let Will try to explain what happened. She had right to be ticked, but she took it way overboard. But all in all, excellent book!

This was a great sequel! I enjoyed both books. I would describe these books as romantic.....very well written.

Point of Retreat is a great follow-up to Hoover’s Slammed. Everything that made me thoroughly enjoy Slammed is also in Point of Retreat. The characters are all back, and they are also developed more (which is expected in a sequel). I feel this made me enjoy some even more. There are also some new characters, Kiersten in particular, that made this book what it is. Without the addition of Kiersten and her mother, I think some odd moments would be missing.
One of the initial shocks this book gave me was the point of view switch. Slammed was told from the first person point of view of Layken. Point of Retreat is told by Will. This took me a chapter or two to get used to and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to accept this. I was so used to hearing Layken talk that reading a story from Will felt wrong. I’m glad I opened up to him though. There’s no way this story would have been as successful if Layken were telling it.
It also helped having Will’s side of the relationship. He is the “more adult” of the group but seeing his struggles and imperfections makes his character more relatable and likable. Aside from his strange outbursts in Slammed I saw him as almost too perfect. But he’s far from it, and like Layken and everyone else, he’s also struggling to keep it together.
Hoover seems to have mastered the art of blindsiding the reader with many unexpected events. A few plot twists in Point of Retreat are no exception. I can’t tell what they are, but something MAJOR happens in the second half of the book that, although there is some foreshadowing a few sentences beforehand, I would not have guessed would happen. This is just after something great happens. So what better time to throw a curve ball? There is none, I tell you.
Basically if you’ve read/loved Slammed, I suggest you continue the story and read Point of Retreat. I don’t think a fan would be disappointed. If you read the first book and didn’t love it completely, maybe Point of Retreat will still be to your enjoyment, maybe even more than Slammed.
Whatever you do, I do think both of these books are worth a read. The series is butterflying great! (If you don’t understand that, you obviously haven’t met Kiersten)

First, I want to say I love Colleen Hoover! LOVE her! However, this book fell short of her talent. For as mature and developed as Lake and Will were in the first book, Slammed, I felt they digressed in this book. I understand she was trying to play up Layken's "carving pumkin" tendencies, but I was under the impression, while it's a character flaw, she had moved passed it in the first book. In tandem, I believe it can be very difficult to change point of view in a series. Many people have commented on their dislike of Will's POV for one reason or another. I think it is most difficult to write a book retelling a story that fulfills all the emotions and thoughts a reader has in the first book. I don’t think I’ve read book that yet that has done this with success. However, I will continue to read the rest of the series with This Girl because I adore Colleen Hoover.

This book was sooo cute. In fact, I think I even liked it slightly more than Slammed, if that’s even possible. I know Slammed had more plot twists and emotional meanings, but Point of Retreat was just amazing in its simplicity. In Slammed I wanted to see more of Lake and Will alone, and my wish was granted in this book, because Point of Retreat is all about them. Mostly, it made me smile, laugh and fangirl all over the place. The story still had good vibes even when their relationship was in jeopardy. I loved Will’s grandpaul and I think my favorite character was Kiersten, seriously every time she appeared and I thought I couldn’t possibly love her more, I did.
This book had it all and I think Slammed wouldn’t have been complete without it.
P.S. Thank you Colleen Hoover for giving the word butterfly (and carving pumpkins) a whole new meaning. I think I’m gonna use them all the time even if nobody else understands that it’s an inside joke (then again, I think that’s the whole point).

After reading Slammed I knew I had to read the next book. The way that Slammed ended, there was no way I was through with the story or the characters. I needed more. And it’s funny. The minute I got Point Of Retreat, I could not bring myself to read it. Why? Because I wasn’t ready for the story to end. So I let it sit on my shelf, mocking me until I finally had the courage to let go. And folks, it was beautiful.1. Emotion. One thing I adore about Ms. Hoover is the way she is able to manipulate the reader into feeling everything the characters are. I felt loved, happy, worried, scared, angry and old. I could relate to the characters because when I was little, I too had to grow up fast. My parents got divorced little a single mom and three kids to raise. And me being the oldest, I had to step up and help raise my brothers. So I get it. It felt so easy, stepping right back into the story where it left off.2. Plot. It’s easy to say that this plot is built like a roller coaster. Lots of up and downs, leaving you feeling high and depressed all at the same time. The mix of emotions with questions being raised left me feeling like I was in the book. I understood what was happening yet I couldn’t do anything about it. So when things got tough, I put the book down. But not for long, just long enough for me to take a deep breathe and dive back in.3. Minor characters. The minor characters that help shaped the main ones bring more to the story than what I thought. They are in turn, part of the main characters, Layken and Will. They were brothers, best friends, and friendly neighbors who brought good wisdom and insight to whatever problems Will and Layken had.4. Facing the past. Having a short childhood makes you question everything. Why me? Why now? How could this be true? I loved how well the author raised questions that allowed the reader to think outside the book. I loved that I could put down the book and think about Layken and her situation.5. Love. GAH! The love in this book is ever-flowing with such great innocence that it blossoms wonderfully before the readers eyes. I cried during some points in the book especially the parts where they declare their love. It’s so amazing to watch two characters over come and love each other deeply.Beautiful and inspiring, Point Of Retreat is an amazing story. Combining realistic situations with an awe inspiring hope, Point Of Retreat makes an impact. A fantastic sequel that triumphs the first book, Point Of Retreat is epic.

I started this book a couple hrs ago , I was so sucked into it because of the first one and I had to see what happened ... This book was BUTTERFLYING amazing!! Seriously!!!!! I laughed so hard with all the butterfly references through out the whole damn book .
Hardships and heartache brought them together…now it will tear them apart.
Layken and Will have proved their love can get them through anything; until someone from Will’s past re-emerges, leaving Layken questioning the very foundation on which their relationship was built. Will is forced to face the ultimate challenge…how to prove his love for a girl who refuses to stop ‘carving pumpkins.
“If I were a carpenter, I would build you a window to my soul. But I would leave that window shut and locked, so that every time you tried to look through it all you would see is your own reflection. You would see that my soul is a reflection of you.”
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED WILL .. he had so much to offer and he was so grown up about the whole thing . yes I was upset when he thought keeping Vaugh from Lake was the right thing to do , but he also owned up to it when he realized the mistake that he made . I LOVED him in this one as much as I did the first one if not more ... he matured alot in this book . It was a nice change by being in Will's feet. I'd get to see Lake in his perspective, how and why he loved her,and to know him better.
"Lake, you mean the world to me. You brought so much to my life..right when I needed it the most. I wish you could know how hopeless I was before I met you, so you would realize just how much you've changed me."
I loved Lake and he actually questioning why Will loved her . I know it was hard for her to do . But I understand why she did what she did , she wanted to make sure that HE did truly love her and just did not feel bad for her in her situation .
Will's and Lake's relationship were tested in this book not only once. And once again, I smiled, laughed, and..cried reading this. I felt the true love between them and their joy by having each other. They definitely grew more in love with this book.
Definitely a must read ... amazing, with all the love, crying , laughing all wrapped into one book ....

Layken and Will were a immature in this book, I’m disappointed. I loved the first book better than this book. At first, I wasn’t sure what to think of the new characters in the story – Kiersten and Shelly – but turns out I love them! The children were my favourite part of this book. Kel, Caulder, and Kiersten made me laugh so much! As usual, Colleen Hoover does an amazing job yet again!
