- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Understanding, Managing, and Overcoming Anxiety [Working Title] Do you have anxiety, stress, life problems that are overwhelming, shutting you down? Are you a Vet with the myriad stresses of your tours of duty? If you answered yes or have a loved one for whom you would answer yes - READ THIS BOOK!Empowerment nation, is about giving you the tools to achieve life goals. In this book O'Brian distills tomes of clinical and scientific of information, mixing the essence with practical knowledge and experience to give the reader a factually sound, yet concise guidebook to find the path to recovery from anxiety disorders. The author’s story is a compelling one - sadly repeated unknown times in these uncertain times. she uses this to inspire the reader to seek recovery, with certain assurance that it is possible, achievable and life changing. This book is not a comprehensive how-to book it does not address all possible situations. Rather it is a guidebook - a hitchhikers guide to anxiety, a tool to finding the paths and tools for your rebirth. Encouragement and hope rush off these pages and touch the reader - you are not alone”. The author walked the path - but first she found it. Emphasizing that each path is unique she sprinkles the gems of her elixir on possible paths as beacons to guide the reader to recovery. finis.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Certainly an excellent topic to write about! The ideal book to read on a vacation, or on an similar relaxing environment, but rather than reading a relaxing book about how to de-stress, the book itself was a bit too stuffy, stressful. The message was a bit lost, but the way around it, is to read the rather short book in pieces. It's a good try, and helpful, but not terrible. 3 stars.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I received this book through the early reviewers member giveaway.I guess I was hoping for some revolutionary method to reduce stress but everything was tactics I've already heard of/tried. The part about herbs is interesting but that was really the only part I found informative. I think it's very basic and doesn't really scratch the surface of living stress free.I found many typos, too.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This was very annoying to read. I won it through the members giveaway program and the bottom of every page said this is a review copy, do not distribute. I read it on a nook and the formatting was awful. Different size fonts and random bold lettering for no reason. The actual information was nothing new or interesting. Sleep well, eat well, do yoga. One chapter on aromatherapy. I didn't learn anything useful.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I won this through a Library Thing giveaway. This book came at the right time. I've been stressed out and not sleeping. This book gave me some great ways to identify stress and how to deal with it. Granted, you have to do the work but I'm starting to realize some of the signs. I try to remember one thing from the book per day. I highly recommend purchasing this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Stress Free You explores the nature of stress, and how to go about dealing with it - and maybe even eliminating it - from your life.First up is an exploration of the origins and physical nature of stress - what happens in the body, how it helped our ancient ancestors survive, and how it continues to affect our lives in both positive and negative ways today. Fortunately, there are techniques which have long been proven to reduce stress and its destructive effects. The Stress Free You lays out all these methods and clearly explains how to use them to clear some of the stress out of your life. The various methods include meditation, yoga, tai chi, accupuncture, herbal remedies and good nutrition (including vitamins for bolstering the immune system), aromatherapy, sleep, and a healthy mental state and attitude. The end section includes useful tips for dealing with stress at work, school, and home. This book is well thought out, and while there are no big surprises here, it delivers exactly what it promises - solid, proven methods for weeding the unhealthy stress, anxiety and fear out, so you can enjoy life and feel good.O'Brien's writing style is clear, and concise - this book is easy for busy (stressed!) people to read, digest, and use.

The Stress-Free You - Elizabeth O'Brien
Introduction
Imagine your life with less stress. Consider, if you will, going through one day without that knotted, tensed feeling in the pit of your stomach and without that tension headache. Imagine what your workday would be like if you didn’t panic at the thought of writing a report in seven days or less.
Think how much easier your day would be if you could reduce even a fraction of the chronic stress you endure. Impossible,
you say? Hardly. It’s not only something that can be accomplished, but you can start right now at reducing the effects of stress on your body. That’s my promise to you.
Not only can you begin to feel less tense nearly immediately, but you’ll also be contributing to your overall wellbeing. Stress is the ultimate mind-body experience. Your perception of events dictates your reactions to them. If you react fearfully, or view certain events as stressful, you set off an entire series of physiological reactions in your body. It’s from these responses that your body exhibits the physical signs we call symptoms of stress.
The only thing at the moment that’s stopping you from living with less stress is you. That’s a bold statement, I know. But I was where you are a few years ago. Every day was stressful. In fact, every day brought a series of stressors attacking me relentlessly. They found me at work, at home, and sometimes even followed me out on the golf course as I tried to relax. They certainly came to bed with me every night and woke up with me each morning.
The result was not only tension headaches and that knotty feeling in my stomach, but the development of some pretty serious physical disorders. My blood pressure began to rise. My triglyceride levels increased. Even my glucose levels crept upward.
My doctor told me I needed to relax more—to take it easy.
But he forgot to inform my supervisor. It’s hard to take it easy when you have a job that demands a lot from you. And my physician never really gave me any indication of how to implement such a plan. He murmured some vague platitudes I really didn’t want to hear.
However, I felt so fatigued and my symptoms got so bad that I realized I had to take my doctor’s advice seriously. I decided it was time to take control of my health. I seriously began to research the effects of stress on the human body. What I found scared me. I saw that if I continued down the course I was traveling, my health would do nothing but continue to decline. Rapidly.
Besides, deep inside me I knew I wasn’t living the life I was meant to. I knew that there was a better way—one that was virtually stress-free. And I set out to discover it. And discover it I did! After months of plowing through web sites, books, and magazine articles, I created the ultimate plan for my situation.
I am now less fearful. I worry less. I actually enjoy waking up in the morning and embracing the day and the opportunities it brings. In fact, I’m happier and more energetic than I’ve ever been in my entire life.
This system is a compilation of many different elements. I made sure I followed through with it. And you know what? It wasn’t difficult at all. In fact, it was pretty easy. The results I experienced were astounding. Nearly instantly I began to feel better. When friends and family noticed the change in me, they wanted my secret.
At first, I was hesitant to talk about it—not because what I was doing was some type of real secret, but because I was afraid to admit the amount of stress I had been carrying around needlessly. Then I realized there were many more people going through this stress than just me. I shared my strategies with them. Before they knew it, my system
worked wonders for them too.
That brings us to the creation of this book. I thought: "Why limit this amazing collection of strategic steps, this system if you will, to just individuals I know?" Stress is endemic in our society. Encouraged by those this system has already helped, I wrote this book.
Don’t think for a moment that you have to go through the rest of your days suffering from stress, anxiety, fear, and even the anger that builds up inside you. Because you don’t. You don’t have to take immense quantities of blood pressure medicine or antidepressants, or any other nerve
medication, as one of my friends calls it.
Simply read the strategies outlined in this book.
