    Introduction

    First, I’d like to thank you for purchasing Games for Kids - 77 Exciting Indoor and Outdoor Games for Children!

    I feel for the very nominal investment you have made in this book, you can provide your own children, children you teach, or children you may be watching with entertainment for hours on end.

    Collected from various sources, these activities have been entertaining children for decades, and will be played for decades to come.

    Contained within, you will find 77 games with benefits listed (including exercise, healthy competition, teamwork, cognitive association skills, and more), description of the game, and time period. Some games are short and last just a few minutes, while others can last in excess of thirty minutes. For easy reference, I kept it in a very simple format.

    I hope you find this book a great resource for the years to come. Make sure to keep it handy later on for activity times, birthday parties, holidays, and other festive events that you may be planning, or heading to.

    Hunter and Watchman

    A true hunter must learn the behavioral patterns and signs of the animal he is tracking, but here is a hunting game that is not quite so complicated.  If you’re looking for a fun alternative to the typical game of hide-and-seek, search no further than Hunter and Watchman!  Your group of little ones is sure to be ready for naptime after this upbeat play, in which there is a designated hunter, tasked with catching and imprisoning players, a guardsman, tasked with guarding imprisoned players, and animals, which are the remaining players. With the only necessities being energy and a wide open space, this exciting game offers the thrill of being caught and the thrill of no expense to play.

    BONUS BENEFIT: Exercise

    Objective of the Game: To capture all animals (players) by the hunter and to be prisoned watchman inside the pen.

    Play Time: Unlimited.

    Number of Players: 5 or more players.

    Suitable for Ages: 5+ years of age.

    Where to Play: Outdoors in a wide area.

    Items Required: Nothing!

    Instructions:

    One player in the group will be picked to be the hunter. Another player is chosen to play the part of the guard. All of the other children playing will become animals.

    Next, you need to make a pen for everyone. On the ground, draw or mark a circle that is about 10 feet in diameter using stones, sticks, caulk, or anything else that is available that doesn’t stick out of the ground.

    The guard will stand inside the pen and must remain inside of the pen the duration of the game. However, the guard can patrol the perimeter of the pen and attempt to catch any of the stray animals that get too close to the pen!

    When the game starts, the animals will scatter, and begin running around the pen area, while trying to escape the hunter who chases after them.

    If the hunter catches one of the animals, the hunter takes him or her over to the pen. Once the animal is in the pen, the animal is unable to escape. However, while the hunter is taking the animal to the pen, one of the other animals can touch the animal that is being led to the pen and rescue it.

    The trick is, the rescuing animal must also do their best to avoid being touched by the hunter or the guard when they are trying to rescue the animal being led to the pen, or that animal will also be considered caught and also put in the pen.

    When Does the Game End: The game can be stopped at any time. To keep the game shorter, you may prefer to limit the amount of time in advance or stop the game after a certain number of animals have been captured. Or, you can just play until the last remaining animal wins.

    Frisbee Tower

    The Frisbee was invented from a fluke event: one day after eating the pie in a pie tin from the Frisbee Baking Company, some college kids starting flinging the empty pans about. Today, Frisbees aren’t just for warm weather and Fido!  With Frisbee Tower, you can turn a dull afternoon into stimulating competition with only a pile of Frisbees and the eagerness of rambunctious little ones.  This easy game turns your indoor or outdoor play space into the site for human Jenga as players take turns carefully stacking Frisbees, one after another, with the impending crash of the Frisbee Tower looming above each player.

    BONUS BENEFIT: Healthy Competition & Teamwork

    Objective of the Game: To create a tower made of Frisbees by two teams. The winner of this game can be declared if a team manages to create a larger tower of Frisbees without it falling.

    Play Time: Unlimited.

    Number of Players: 2 or more players, as long as the number of players can be divided by two teams evenly.

    Suitable for Ages: 5+ years of age.

    Where to Play: Indoors or outdoors.

    Items Required: Mini or large Frisbees.

    Instructions:

    Purchase a good number of mini Frisbees and pile them all up in the middle of a yard or other area.

    Divide the number of Frisbees among each of the players (the players can do this on their own). You can also divide them equally among teams.

    Have all the players group themselves in a circle around where the playing area will be.

    Begin the activity by having the first player take one of the Frisbees and place it on the ground.

    Working clockwise or counter clockwise (while also alternating players or teams), the players following the first one will place one of their Frisbees on the top of the first Frisbee.

    The next player in the sequence will then take one of their Frisbees and place it on top of the pile.

    When Does the Game End: The game continues until someone causes the growing tower to topple. That person or team loses, and the other player or team is declared the winner.

    Guess Who I Am

    Wilkie Collins, of 19th-century England, is credited with first whodunit, titled Moonstone. The game Guess Who I Am is a classic who-dun-it, or in our case, who-is-it!  Children love a friendly mystery, and they won’t be disappointed with Guess Who I Am.  With one person choosing and holding the secret of a person known to all players, the game allows children to do what they love most: ask questions!   Since the winner of each round becomes the answerer in the next, expect this delightful game to have many rounds, and – of course – many questions.

    BONUS BENEFIT: Cognitive Association Skills

    Objective of the Game: To guess the identity of a person someone is thinking of by asking questions.

    Play Time: 5 minutes.

    Number of Players: 2 or more players.

    Suitable for Ages: 5-10 years of age.

    Where to Play: Indoors, good while driving in a car as well.

    Items Required: None.

    Instructions:

    One player thinks of a person that would be familiar to the other players.  It could be a family member, famous person, friend, etc.

    Each person asks one question that could be answered yes or no. For example, Is this person a girl?

    If you want to guess the identity you have to say, I know who it is. If they guess wrong, however, they lose a turn.

    The player who guesses correctly gets to think up a person for the next round.

    When Does the Game End: When a player correctly guesses the identity of the person.
