CHAPTER I
L'Empire
WEST SAHARA. NEAR OASIS BEL-ART-MORT
Emptiness. All embracing emptiness. The infinity of scorching sand and air. Quartz, oxygen and nitrogen. The pre-existence land. But even here in the middle of desert hell, the human advanced technology triumphantly left its footstep – a Land Rover like a vanishing point, with the opened sunroof and someone sitting inside, wearing a white turban protecting him from the deadly sunshine. Gazed upon the horizon, he seemed to be waiting for something. Another minute passed. The stranger closed his eyes, and when his anxiety became so unbearable that he was about to turn the ignition and leave, he stopped short. It was a premonition of something powerful approaching. Something horribly temperamental. Far away before him a tiny point got separated from the horizon and a huge metallic disc emerged from the open space, sliding silently above the tops of sandy dunes. The stranger inside Land Rover watched the craft with unbelievable astonishment, when it stopped and hovered several meters in front of the car eclipsing the sun. It was the size of a house and the stranger got off the car to come near the lower part of the craft. Than something unexpected happened – the bulged cover opened with a hiss and in hazy hatchway stood up a figure of human. The men hugged and after a while the Land Rover driver said:
– I thought You would never come.
To the ultimate events there remain 30 hours.
