What was she actually?“Well I suppose you are a very beautiful cook.”So if I have to answer the same question what am I actually? I would also need to consider this for a moment. I would like to say I’m an ex astronaut, have more degrees than a thermometer, have competed in the Tour de France without any EPO, surfed Teahupoo in Tahiti and emerged unscathed, sailed round the world, am an ace Alpine skier, am a member of Mensa, have a beauty queen wife and gorgeous kids, and started my own corporation which has listed on NASDAQ. I could go on but like Arnold Schwarzenegger I don’t want to boast.Well to be honest, I have gone some of the way towards all those things. I do have a letter from Wernher von Braun, I do have three degrees in Physics, I have flown in a jet plane (Emirates Air), I do cycle the mega steep hills here where I live but unfortunately can’t get EPO anywhere, I am a keen surfer who has almost managed to break his neck, I am an ocean going skipper and I did own my own yacht though if it was me I wouldn’t sail with me as captain, I do ski but you need to get out of the way, I do have a beautiful wife (though her agreeing to marry me has to be my biggest piece of luck ever) and two great kids, I do have my own software business but no stock exchanges alas and I would like to take the Mensa test but I’m pretty sure I would fail and then I wouldn’t be able to live with that so I would rather rationalize. I live in that sapphire city – Cape Town.

      Introduction

      How to Get the Best out of Netflix? The thing is, there’s no stopping Netflix’s meteoric progress. It’s now the 53rd most popular web site on the planet and that compares to number 381 for Hulu which makes its service 7 times as popular as Hulu. Probably most people on the planet will end up subscribing to Netflix one way or the other, whether the powers that be that control content distribution like it or not. It’s going to become like Facebook in the end. And what’s more most of these subscribers will probably watch Netflix for the rest of their lives.

      So, it would pay to spend a bit of time on arranging things to get the most out of this service which by all standards offers really fantastic value. All you can watch for $7.99 per month! Please! That is actually the bargain of the century when one considers it against the sheer scope and flux of its library of titles.

      So, I spent another couple of months researching this whole issue. Along the way I learnt quite a few things that I didn’t know, and once implemented, have given me a powerful window into Netflix and of course greatly enhanced the quality of content that I watch.

      I’ve gathered all these suggestions, tips and techniques into this single book which are easily implementable and will fast track you to a better overall viewing experience for the rest of your Netflix membership.

      Choosing the Most Suitable Netflix Plan

      Netflix offers three streaming plans to choose amongst. The plan you choose will determine how many people can stream movies and TV shows from Netflix at the same time. No matter which plan you choose, you can install the Netflix app (see Netflix Centric Tools) on as many devices as you want.

      The Basic Plan: Watch on 1 screen at a time in Standard Definition. Download videos on 1 phone or tablet (SD) ($7.99/month)

      The Standard Plan: Watch on 2 screens at a time. HD available. Download videos on 2 phones or tablets. And in high definition (HD) when available ($9.99/month)

      The Premium Plan: Watch on 4 screens at a time. HD and Ultra HD available. Download videos on 4 phones or tablets and in high definition (HD) and ultra high definition (UHD) when available ($11.99/month)

      Most In, Most Out

      Do you know what MIMO stands for?

      It’s actually quite simple. It stands for Most In, Most Out.

      Yes, before we go any further, we need to ensure that the content in your accessible Netflix library is all it can be. You see, because of complex licensing agreements, all of which work against you and cost you money in the end, the further you get away from American shores, the more content vanishes out of the Netflix library. It’s like a helicopter carrying a huge drogue full of water to put out a blazing fire, only the drogue is full of holes, and its leaking water like a sieve. The further it flies the more water it loses, until when it finally arrives at the fire only a fraction of the water is left. Let’s take a simple example. Imagine there are 2 families living on each side of a hypothetical road on the US-Canadian border. On the one side of the road you have the US family; and on the other side of the road is the Canadian family. Guess what! They both have Netflix subscriptions, but the Canadian family only sees 1/3 of the titles the American family sees!

      So, following the MIMO principle is very first step to improving your viewing experience by anything up to 200% if you don’t live in the US.

      ExpressVPN is presently actively unblocking US Netflix using a DNS approach, enabling anyone worldwide to access the US Netflix library instead of your emaciated local Netflix library. It costs $12.95 per month, but trust me it’s worth it.

      Netflix My List

      The Netflix My List is a wonderful feature. Sign on to Netflix, position your cursor on Browse and My List will be displayed in the drop-down menu. You can browse titles and with a click add them to your List for later viewing. This can e done whilst sitting at your TV with the Apple Remote if you are using Apple TV but this is painfully slow. No, the right way to do is via your computer or iPad, which brings speed and ease of use. Genres and title thumbnails are retrieved instantly and the placing the cursor on a thumbnail brings up the movie details in a jiffy. This is the way to construct your My List. Of course, you can update it via your remote if you like the look of a More Like This titles displayed at the bottom of the Netlix page on your TV screen after viewing a title. And its good practice to clean up after you by removing it from the queue once viewed.

      However, nothing can beat going into you’re My List on your computer for editing. You can delete a whole batch of titles just by putting an x for delete against them then pressing the Update My List button and these titles are removed in one pass.

      What’s needed are periodic visits to the Netflix site on your computer, browsing and selection of titles, adding them to the My List and deleting any viewed titles or any titles you’ve previously selected but now no longer are interested in. This is tons better than sitting at the console and idly flicking through genres and trying to find something to watch in real time. Be prepared!

      (As a corollary of this, you may wish to remove some of those hot titles from your viewing history! If so:

      Sign into Netflix.com

      Go to Account

      Scroll down to My Profile

      Click on Viewing Activity

      Click on the X next to the titles you want to remove

      Netflix will then display the message: (Title) will be removed from your viewing activity on all devices within 24 hours.)

      Netflix does its best to find the right listings for you, but let's face it: sometimes you're just in the mood for some great Korean TV shows. And there's really no way for the streaming service to know that. In fact, there's no way for anyone to know that. If you want to look up specific types of genres on Netflix, WhatsOnNetflix has a solution. Just search by the category ID numbers:

      How this works is you grab the url from the Netflix search page:

      http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/INSERTNUMBER

      Simply insert the number of the specific category you want to view.

      The WhatsOnNetflix website lists the codes for the different categories you can browse, which include Cult TV Shows (74652), Romantic Independent Movies (9916) and even Deep-Sea Horror Movies (45028). Korean TV Shows is 67879, by the way.
