About this ebook
Process improvement is about improving quality, about doing more with existing resources while at the same time improving quality of life. Process Improvement is about working smarter, not harder.
Process Improvement is not cost cutting, nor is it what the bean counters of the old days used to do. Process Improvement looks at things done repeatedly that are very manual, prone to errors, time consuming or very expensive and tries to find better ways to get them done.
The Art of Process Improvement is a high level strategic book aimed at leaders looking to cut expenses, improve employee morale and maximize profits. This book focuses on managing the process and creating a culture where quality, change, and innovation are encouraged and rewarded.
Abdul A Jaludi
Having had twenty-five years experience with process improvement in the financial services industry, Abdul Jaludi has espoused and championed efficiency as a crucial element in successfully and consistently meeting customer's needs and expectations. Facilitating twenty-four-seven stability and availability within the unforgiving business environs of intense competitive pressure and strict regulatory requirements has been an ever-changing trial throughout his tenure. It is nevertheless within these challenging and high-stakes environs that Jaludi has been able to help establish one of the most efficient mainframe banking environments in the world - leading innovation in procedure automation; and department, function, process and tool optimization - well before such improvements were thought practical, or even possible. His firsthand experience has enabled Jaludi to fully understand and embrace how process improvement, change management, and corporate culture are critical factors in determining how an organization can efficiently address and react to rapid changes in the business environment. The lessons learned during those twenty-five years are the genesis of this book, which focuses on the concept of process improvement, how to implement change and innovation, and the role of leadership in making these crucial elements of success an integral part of the corporate culture.

INTRODUCTION
The Art of Process Improvement is a high level strategic book aimed at helping companies better compete by improving productivity, reducing expenses and improving employee morale using principles outlined in one of the greatest war strategy books ever written, The Art of War by Sun Tzu.
The Art of War by Sun Tzu is not a book on how to fight during a battle, but rather a guide for steps to follow or avoid when developing the war strategy. The Art of Process Improvement is much the same. It will not teach how to evaluate or re-engineer a process but rather the steps to follow or avoid when attempting to do so.
The term ‘continual process improvement’ is somewhat redundant. Process improvement is not something you do once then walk away. As demands, needs, conditions and technology change, the process you just re-engineered needs to evolve as well.
In times of economic crisis, many companies cut expenses to deal with the crisis by reducing staff. This approach provides an immediate short term relief, but at the cost of employee morale. The remaining staff as a result is forced to work additional hours
