Preface
This book started from my era, but being in a family with over 150 years in sugaring had me wanting to explain how the generations started.
This is a book full of hard labor with the love of sugaring, making that pure maple syrup. You will see pictures of most all my family.
All our families have been raised helping to gather that sap to make the real, pure maple syrup. Some have grown and spread out, occasionally stopping to recall the old days of sugaring. My husband left the farm before we married, but he did not leave sugaring.
My children followed my husband through the beginning of his own sugar house following the old generations and passing it still to the younger family members. Our sugaring continues on and we as parents, grandparents, and great grandparents are blessed that we are still around to see and maybe even help out.
One thing from a woman’s point of view in sugaring is when we are with young children we not only do what is needed in the home, but we go out into the sugar bush to help and then to help the children gather and to watch over them as the head sugar maker directs and shows what is needed to be done.
