    The Goal

While for most dog trainers and book authors the goal with Leash Training is 'no more pulling' or 'perfect heeling', for us here this is not the goal - these are mere side effects that will be achieved automatically.

Instead, our goal with Leash Training is to replace the leash with the Recall. To make the leash the last resort. As it should be.

    Why?

Look: What is the purpose of putting a dog on-leash if we can call our dog reliably to us, and the dog stays with us until we give the cue to release the dog? Exactly: In all such cases, the leash becomes irrelevant.

Since you got this book as a dog lover (see the book title), you too hopefully don't want to subject your dog to an unnecessary restraint, right?

All seen countless times with my own eyes. Plus, at mygermanshepherd.org we get a LOT of 'dog problem' reports from members and visitors alike (German Shepherds have enormous pull power!) - and even if the dog owner doesn't mention a leash problem, I can conclude from the other reported problems that the owner has a leash problem too.

The typical leash walk ruins both the dog's and the owner's joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons - and nerves! Plus, it stresses out the dog (and us). Stress leads to aggression. The typical leash walk makes the dog
