About this ebook

King Sennacherib of Assyria laid siege to the cities of Judah with the intention to completely possess them. Sennacherib could not do the job all by himself and had to employ the services of three of his officials whom he sent to deliver a message to Hezekiah. These were Tartan, Rabsaris and Rabshakeh.
It is significant to observe that out of the three officials, the Rabshakeh was elected to speak for the king. He spoke for the king because of his sensitivity to the king's heart, his love for him and his fellowship with him. Those who speak for the king are those who are close to him. In the same way, God speaks to those who are close to Him and sends them to speak for Him.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    INTRODUCTION

The kingdom of darkness is holding in its custody people and resources the Kingdom of God needs. You must storm the gates of hell and take what is yours. Unbelievers have resisted you for too long and you have to discover the right strategy to overcome the enemy. The winning strategy is not found in man’s wisdom or power. To overcome the enemy and possess what is yours, you need the power of the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Ghost imparts peculiar character traits to individuals to perform specific assignments. These character traits are identified with the individual to the point where they are termed as his or her spirit. Examples of these spirits are the Caleb spirit and Elijah spirit.

The Caleb spirit is the character of obedience and faith, given to Caleb by the Holy Ghost, with which he encouraged the people of Israel to go in and possess the Promised Land, when the other spies who went with him and Joshua to spy the land were afraid and rebellious. God commended Caleb for having another spirit and promised to let him go into the Promised Land physically.

24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

    Numbers 14:24

The Elijah spirit is the manifestation of faith, authority and miracle working power, given to Elijah by the Holy Ghost, with which he worked miracles, influenced natural situations and destroyed the powers of idolatry. Elijah imparted a double portion of his spirit to Elisha with which he divided the River Jordan. After the feat of dividing the river, the sons of the prophets confessed that Elisha had the spirit of Elijah.

15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

    2 Kings 2:15

Rabshakeh, the king of Assyria’s chief butler, is another person in the Bible who had peculiar character traits that are similar to the ones the Holy Ghost gives to God’s people. He was a heathen man but his character and actions have many things to teach us about the character we need in order to possess what is ours. I refer to his peculiar character and actions as the Rabshakeh spirit. Although we can’t say for certain that Rabshakeh was empowered by the Holy Ghost, we cannot rule out that possibility either.

It is possible for God to give a heathen person positive character traits to fulfil a divine assignment. God empowered King Cyrus to execute His will. The Bible clearly states that the LORD anointed Cyrus to subdue nations. King Cyrus was the conqueror of Babylon who ordered the liberation of the Jews from captivity. God opened a two-leaved gate before him, made crooked places straight and broke in pieces the gates of brass.

    1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

    Isaiah 45:1-3

There is nothing wrong with learning how to be courageous from a heathen person. Jesus Christ used the behaviour of the unjust steward to teach His disciples how to behave wisely.

8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

    Luke 16:8

It is easy for believers to desire the Caleb spirit, Joshua spirit or Elijah spirit but not the Rabshakeh spirit. It is not common for believers to use Rabshakeh’s life to typify life in the Holy Ghost because he was a heathen servant of a heathen king.

In his attempt to attack and completely subdue King Hezekiah of Judah, King Sennacherib of Assyria sent three messengers to intimidate him, one of whom was Rabshakeh. A careful study of Rabshakeh’s character and mission to King Hezekiah reveals some insightful truths about the spirit of a person on assignment who is full of the Holy Ghost. He was a heathen messenger but his actions have many things to teach us about someone who is empowered by the Holy Ghost.

The Rabshakeh spirit refers to the character and actions of Rabshakeh that correspond with the characteristics and actions of a person who is empowered by the Holy Ghost. This Rabshakeh spirit reveals the characteristics you need to enter the enemy’s camp and take possession of what belongs to you. The enemy will not voluntarily give you what belongs to you – you must take it by force and strategy.

The Holy Ghost has the strategy to deliver what is yours to you and if you have Him, you have the Rabshakeh spirit. You must have the right kind of spirit to win.
