      Mind Over Heart

      An age difference of three years one way or another might mean nothing in adulthood. But in earlier years, three years mean a great deal. At seventeen, a brother three years older would be twenty making for a huge discrepancy in thinking and aspect. But, as providence would have it, she did not suffer a male sibling. Most cultures perceive male offspring as a household treasure and her home was no different. Her Father reminded her several times of the blessing, since, he explained, her Mother would have idolized him.

      At the ripe age of seventeen, her younger sister was fourteen making for a big difference. Though intelligent and sharp, she was still that much younger making it impossible for them to achieve the same level of communication and thought. Close knit though the two were, by the sad impact of an unbalanced parent.

      Nothing brings people together like a common enemy. As the old expression says, 'myself and my brother against my cousin; my cousin and me against a stranger'. Blood is thicker than water! But then the story got ahead of itself. This story of love found then rejected was in the midst of
