      Chapter 1: THE POPE AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

      Greetings to you. I am Elijah Muhammad, the preacher of freedom, justice and equality, to my people, the American so-called Negroes, who are not Negroes. They are a tribe and member of that great Asiatic Nation, by the name of Shabazz, from whom we came. We have been here in the Western Hemisphere, according to the word of Almighty God, Allah, to me, for 400 years; to Whom all praise is due, the Lord of the worlds. He is the One that all looked for to come and He has come, Almighty God in person.

      We live in the day of a change of worlds; an old world going out and a new world coming in. We live in this change. We are happy and should be happy that Almighty God Allah has blessed us to see this day; wherein, the old evil world of sin and indecency is passing off the scene with all of her shows and work of evil and filth. This world, as you and I now know, was the world of evil, given 6,000 years to try the righteous nation - the original nation of the earth - the black people. The white people were created and made for the purpose of ruling this people - the original nation - under a rule of evil, indecency, temptation and every kind of vice that is known to the science of man. The most evil and the most filthy temptation ever known to be displayed before man is now going on in this evil world which was [made] to live 6,000 years and do all the evil it possibly could.

      These people are the murderers of God's prophets, the murderers of the righteous, the liars of the people, the deceivers of all the people, who have not the nature to be righteous, because there was none put in them. Murder was put into their hearts and mind when they were created. Their father put it into their hearts when they were made, and by nature, they are that . The proof is their work which they have done - murdering, lying and inviting people to evil and indecency. This is the ruling class of this world, called the white man's world.

      This, you must now know today. These are the truths that were never brought out to the righteous people, who would turn from evil, who would turn from following after doing evil if they had only known the evil guide. Today, the man of sin is being revealed, as the Bible, II Thessalonians, teaches you, that there can be no judgment until that man of sin is revealed. The man of sin means one who is [made] of evil and that he has no good in him at all. By nature he's made that, which is what the Bible is referring to. This is not a person of good who has attracted or [contracted] evil or has been led by an evil one, but one that was made, by nature, of evil and one that, by nature, cannot help but to be evil - that is the white race.

      The so-called American Negro who has no part whatsoever in this people, by nature, must be told the truth as it is written - Ye shall know the truth... - according to John saying these to be the words of Jesus, around the 37th verse of the 8th chapter of John. This truth now is being preached to you, my people. If it costs my life to tell you the truth, I must tell it. If it cost the life of all my followers, it must be told. A nation numbering between 22 and 25 million is more valuable than a few people who will sacrifice their lives for them, if that sacrifice is made by those who would love to see you free of your enemies, own some of this earth that you can call your own. Their names will be written in the book that will live forever, for a death that was sacrificed or a person who sacrificed his life for the good of a nation that will live forever and triumph over evil and trample it under their feet after it has been destroyed into ashes. This is an easy price to pay. It is a glorious price to pay; therefore, we, the Muslims, fear not our lives and care not for the consequences of telling the truth, preaching the truth, and trying to lead our people out of the hands and power of their enemies regardless to what it cost. We are the people who want to see our people live in peace, enjoying freedom, justice and equality as a civilized nation of the earth.

      God Almighty has appeared among you and has missioned me, Elijah Muhammad, to preach the truth to you and warn you of the insinuations of the devil which will cause you to meet with total destruction with them. I want you to know for what reason the truth is really being preached to you. It is to save your own life from a destruction of a people with whom you have no part whatsoever in their destruction,
