Introduction
If you carry a pack of cards with you, you’ll never suffer boredom if you get stuck for something to do while waiting in the airport for a late connection, or waiting for your date to finish primping, or waiting for the morning paper to be delivered, or…well, you get the idea. With a pack of cards, you can play dozens of different solitaire games—of which those in this little book are just a few—and kill time enjoyably.
All these games, except for the venerable Klondike―which is the classic solitaire game the world over―were invented by me one rainy vacation when I was stuck waiting for the sun to come out so the family could go to the beach. Some of the games, like Baseball and Football, are aimed for kids. Others, like the takeoffs on Bridge and Hearts, are for adults who know the four-person versions of those games. Some, like Flip, are for anyone who just wants to kill time by manipulating patterns.
All of the games are played with one standard deck of 52 cards. I’ve tried to make the instructions clear and not too complicated. But be sure to
