Common Trout Fishing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them is a clear and concise article which highlights the key mistakes inexperienced anglers make when trying to catch trout with artificial lures and flies and suggests a number of ways they can improve their chances of catching fish.

Introduction
Although catching fish isn’t the only reason why people like to go trout fishing, early success is very important for new anglers. Trout are a challenging fish to catch, and often it’s early success that provides newbies with the motivation to persevere through the tough times and become an accomplished trout fisherman or woman.
In Common Trout Fishing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them I identify some of the common mistakes made by inexperienced anglers, which are often based on misleading or unrealistic advice, and suggest a number of ways by which they can improve their chances of catching trout. This article includes everything from focusing on situations where trout are easier to catch, to highlighting some of the likely reasons why anglers can struggle with casting or tackle failure.
Although there are many ways to catch trout, I’ve decided to focus on the two most popular and affordable – land-based spin fishing and fly fishing. Certainly there are a number of other successful methods of trout fishing, such as trolling and jigging from boats, or live bait fishing for sea-run trout, but it’s difficult to cover all these methods in a short, concise booklet. Spinning and fly fishing also complement one another since there are trout fishing situations where spin fishing is the best option and others where fly-casting will be a lot more effective.
One thing I would like to emphasis with trout fishing in general is that flexibility is an important ingredient to fishing success and an angler who is willing to change their fishing methods to suit the circumstances is more likely to enjoy regular success than a persistent but stubborn fisher who uses the same methods and tactics in all situations.
What about natural baits?
There is no doubt that natural, live baits such as worms, maggots, crickets and bait fish can catch a lot of trout – in fact, after fly fishing with nymphs, live bait fishing is probably the most effective means of catching trout. If you have access to suitable waters for live bait fishing, and an experienced hand to show you how to do it, then by all means try fishing for trout using this method. However, I’ve decided not to cover live bait
