CHAPTER 1 – SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
I often hear women say, My friend doesn’t have time for me anymore now that she’s married!
I suppose before I got married it sounded like a travesty to the unlearned ear but now that I’m ten-years into this marriage of mine that I cherish so deeply – I completely understand. A married woman has just stepped into a new dimension that her single counterparts have not come into yet, have left, transitioned from, or may never know. It can be difficult trying to understand why your newly married friend no longer has the desire to engage in activities like she did before but the truth is: She can’t help it! Her mind, body and spirit, is calling out to her beckoning her new life as a wife. While it may be a little difficult to grasp at first, a married woman is meant to redefine the relationships she once knew; she must reposition herself to meet the new level of purpose that is bestowed upon her as a married woman.
How many times have you heard a single woman say: As soon as something goes wrong, she’ll be calling me for help – wanting to come back and talk to me because things aren’t working out in her relationship!
Even though this statement sounds very spiteful, it’s more of an indication of the lack of understanding from the speaker, than it is mean-spirited. The single woman, who has never been married, often assumes, irrationally, that married women should just carry on as they did before. The single woman unconsciously fails to factor in that a lot of her time with her newly married friend was spent talking about other men, dressing-up to be seen by other men, flirting with other men, and engaging in activities with the hopes of meeting a man whom she may soon become a wife to. A married woman has the option to continue acting single if she desires but for the purpose of pursing excellence, we’re talking about a godly woman who walks in the ways of wisdom.
A godly woman doesn’t operate business as usual especially when it comes to her marriage. She knows better than to discount something that God certified as sacred reducing it to common and casual. This book is for the woman who is concerned about reaching God’s divine destiny for her married-life and doesn’t want to waste an ounce of breath living beneath the will of God. A single woman who secretly wishes that her married friend would run back into her life at the expense of losing her marriage, is a woman who can benefit by reading this book from beginning to end. A single woman who desires to get married one day can share a mutual benefit by looking behind the curtain of some of the issues and factors that come into play as a married woman. A newly married woman who plans to excel in her marriage can utilize this book as a resourceful reference guide both now and in the future. For the woman who is no stranger to married life, this book can serve as a source of encouragement, redirection and strengthen you as you continue along your journey as a wife.
We have all been there as onlookers watching our friends move on to better things in life. People don’t willingly sign up to feel left out of something that looks like so much fun. Marriage is a lot of fun; as much fun as it is, it’s twice as much work. Which brings me back to the married woman whose single friend is
