Hi! My name is Michael Arnold. I live in the small, boring town of Gastonia, North Carolina, located fifteen minutes from Charlotte, North Carolina. There is more excitement in Charlotte, so I cannot complain about my boring town of Gastonia, right? I assist my mother, who is blind and has been blind all of her life. However, for some odd reason, she helps me just as much as I help her. My mother would often say: "Hi Michael! I cooked chicken and I made sure I cooked enough for you!" "Thanks mom!" I would reply.I love writing. I have been writing since 2004. I'm still learning how to become a better writer daily. Stephen King is my favorite author, although I have never written any horror short stories. I enjoy reading his work because he knows how to tell a story.I chose “Smashwords” because I believe Mark Coker has provided an opportunity for unknown authors to post books online. This is absolutely splendid! I have posted a few books online. Please read them when you have the time. My promise is that you would not regret that decision.I love to read and write. Fortunately, I have a few books to share. I do it because of the love I have for writing. “Smashwords” has provided the opportunity to share what began as “sketchy” thoughts, to the development of a complete short story or novel for your enjoyment. Thanks to all who have taken the time to view this page, download my samples, books, and short stories .

The shadow of gloom that peeked through the dazzling clouds hours ago, had now spread a black coat over the light and set First World into a sphere of night. Above First World, and beyond the clouds in their macrocosm, darkness had no power, nor did it live, for it lost its authority to the light which hovered over three mysterious people, Orin, Nolan, and Skylar.

Skylar’s lips twitched, her eyes burned with tears that formed beneath her eye sockets, before rolling down her cheeks. She stood still, peering around as if she wanted to see something or someone before walking into the foyer within the tilted mountains of her home where her two comrades were. She waited, standing still like a mannequin; Skylar let the tears fall all, not wiping a single one of them away.

Suddenly, she bellowed before the russet mountain bowing as her countenance changed from sadness to anger.

Divinity, ruler over the Outer System and all that we have ever seen in existence, I am truly sorry for what has happen to you, if I had only been there, if we had only been there, this would never have happened. Skylar paused then shook her head in disbelief, then in anger she stood to her feet.

If it wasn’t for those wretched humans, we would have had a chance to stop Beguilja and his gang before they destroyed the Royal Seat. Please forgive me and on behalf of Orin and Nolan – but truth is truth.

Skylar continued, "In the name of Divinity and on behalf of The Article, I vowed first to destroy the humans, whom we watched as our world goes astray from the ways of The Article, and the Umbras who have destroyed the Royal Seat and have devised a plan to destroy everything that has ever existed.

If I have to do it alone and in the name of morality, I will do it. For your name sake and for The Article, I will honor your death in revenge.

After all of her anger was exhausted, she walked through some steel-plated, brown, double door, somewhere within the mountains that looked like warped buildings.

You’re okay, Skylar? You look a little winded. Maybe I should have been the spy on call today, Nolan said.

Please, I’m fine. Thank you anyway. I am very much capable of doing the job that Orin has assigned to me. Besides The Guardian Umbras, which you seemed to have had trouble with in the past, I took care of them with ease.

Taking on forty of those Guardian Umbras and killing them by myself, is much more impressive then you saving me from a sneak attack, Nolan replied.

Okay, Nolan, if you say so.

What did you find out? Nolan asked.

You won’t believe this. Where is Orin? she asked in reply, walking down a dark porcelain floor past Nolan and nearing a room.

He has been waiting for you. He is in the back.

Nolan joined Skylar as they strode in haste down the extended corridor. Engraved statues of Umbras lined the charcoal black walls of the square-shaped room where Orin was – alone. Skylar, glad you made it back unharmed, although you appear worried. What information have you found out today?

She gazed into Orin’s light orange eyes. His voice elevated; his dark face void of any enjoyment.

Nolan looked at Skylar. Her head was down. Then, as if the question was asked again, she raised her gaze as she spoke and what came out was hard and full of anger.

Beguilja broke the dividing line and destroyed the Royal Seat and somehow he…, he..., killed Divinity.

Orin pushed the hood back off his head, turning to Skylar and Nolan, and said, Divinity, dead? This is nonsense, how dare you joke about such a serious matter, Skylar, and…

I went there myself, sir; the news is true, Divinity is dead.

Orin consider Skylar’s stunning words then looked away, turning to his decorative wall.

Not only is Divinity dead but so is Lord Evile, Skylar went on, Beguilja took over his throne, then cast Lord Evile down to First World where the humans finished him off. Beguilja is in charge now and is planning on doing away with everything Divinity created, including First World.

I say let’s pay Beguilja a visit and do what we have wanted to do to him for a very long time, Nolan replied as Orin walked out of the room.

    Skylar followed first then Nolan.

I say we do away with the humans once and for all. They have been a hindrance to us since Divinity required that we secretly protect them. And they were supposed to keep The Article safe and abide by its ordinance, but failed in their actions. Besides, we owe it to Divinity in his death, Orin.

Skylar does have a point, Nolan
