About this ebook

One of the most easiest learn system of palmistry that i ever saw: Sophie (Gaurav's Student).

The best thing about this book is that it is written by a teacher of palmistry so he knows what works to make students learn: Michael Nelson (Gaurav's Student).

This book is better than the most other books for learning palmistry because this book is written for the sole purpose of teaching the palmistry in a scientific and rational manner to new learners. The most of the other books available in market were not meant for teaching; they were not written for learners. All the available books on palmistry lacked a systematic approach with simplified principles for teaching. For this reason this book ‘Principles of Palmistry: A Self Learning Manual’ was written. This contains the principles and the system of palmistry that he developed for his students over the years. While reading this book student will feel like talking to the author in his class. Every fact is explained with reason and ample (125) illustrations. This book aims to enable the students to learn the system and principles of palmistry for applying on everyone's hand with confidence. Author of this book Dr. Gaurav Agrawal is the instructor of palmistry at the Indian Palmistry Institute, Rishikesh, India. While teaching he realized that there was not a single book of palmistry that was helpful to new students. For his simplified and logical system he was very much appreciated. Moreover being a clinical psychologist he had used and taught palmistry as a tool for understanding human personality. This understanding is also incorporated in this book. Surely it will be helpful for new learners and also for all those palmists who know the subject but still want to learn it systematically with a logical approach.

Gaurav Agrawal

Hi my name is Dr. Gaurav Agrawal and i am presently working as Assistant Professor in the department of Clinical Psychology in Dev Sanskriti University, Haridwar. I am also the instructor at Indian Plamistry Institute, Rishikesh, India. I have been teaching palmistry since 2003. Being a clinical psychologist I try to brings my knowledge of psychological complexes in palmistry. I always teach to my students that the art of hand reading is a lot more to offer than just future telling. I take the science of hand reading as a tool of assessment of the personality traits and mental state of an individual. For me a hand reader’s job is a lot like that of a counsellor and understanding of palmistry can help one to see the world as the subject himself does. Besides palmistry i also enjoy the KP system of astrology.

    Foreword

The readers might be wondering what is the need of this another book of palmistry, when there are already more than a thousand available in the market. That’s right. There is no need for just ‘another’ book of palmistry. This is what it certainly is not. ‘Just another book of palmistry’. In fact, this is not a text book at all; it lacks many bookish characteristics and does not contain vast and overwhelming amounts of information that other books of palmistry might have. As you may have observed on the front page, this is actually a teaching manual and this book contains the notes that I used to give to my students in regular classes. I felt the need for its publication as I realized that no single book of palmistry exists in the market that can be read and can be learnt by a beginner with ease. At least, not a single book that I know of. I myself was looking for such books when I was learning palmistry, and couldn’t find one that had the vast knowledge of palmistry in a simple and systematic way. All of these books were rich with information, amazing facts and figures but were poor if you wanted to learn and not remember all these facts.

Most of the books written on palmistry provide little help to new students. The reason behind this is simple, they are not written for teaching palmistry and there is no system or logical approach to learn the subject in them. They are generally written by those who knew the subject and wanted to write their new findings on the subject. Then they are useless to a novice. Many of these books are very good and actually are masterpiece in my views. But they were written by geniuses, and while writing they were not really concerned or thinking about the needs of the general population. They wrote for coming generations of hand readers and not for those who don’t yet know the ABCD of palmistry. It wasn’t their fault; you don’t expect a university professor to write books for nursery students.

For the above said reason, thousands of beginners start learning from various palmistry books and finish with a complete failure of learning anything, let alone achieving mastery on the subject. So here is this learning manual for nursery to high school students. It will teach you a basic system of hand reading and help you to develop an insight into this very logical, reasonable and not mysterious art. While reading this manual, students (now if you are learning from this book you have already become my students and thus it is my responsibility to teach you well, provided you follow my instructions) will find that learning palmistry is like learning a new language. A language you can’t remember. You remember a few new words only; learn the rules and grammar and then you can make your sentences. And then this language can be applied in any new situation and you become free to express your thoughts freely. If one tries to remember only a few phrases, then one can never speak fluently in that language. Same is the case if you remember only a few facts from other palmistry books; you’ll never be able to make an interpretation of a hand with confidence and reason unless after many years, you discover the system and logic behind each and every thing. This book will take you from nursery (entry level) to high school (confidence) in palmistry.

This manual is planned to show the logic and reason behind each and every fact in palmistry. A logical and scientific mind questions 'why'. These questions are important. At the Indian Palmistry Institute I encourage my students to ask ‘why?’ about everything until it becomes most reasonable and logical to them. I have found that palmistry is an art based on logic and reason. If this art becomes logical to learners instead of being mystical, one can learn it with ease and without any need of clairvoyance. Then many ignorant people will not dare to criticize palmistry for any lack of objectivity.

Please bear in mind that this book doesn’t claim to be more useful than learning regularly with a teacher. But still it is a lot more useful (for learning palmistry independently) than any other book on the subject.

I want to express my thanks and gratitude to my friends and students Mr. Karl Brochard and Ms. Jodie Miller for editing and proof reading of this book. I also like to extend my thanks to Ms Corinne Burgaliere and Mr. Arvind Srivastava for providing many great inputs and helping to present it in this form. Then there is my whole family including everyone who always encourage me to do better and more. This book might not have come out in its present form without their help. And lastly these are my students who are real inspiration behind this and this book is dedicated to them.

Chapter 1: Science and Rational Behind Palmistry

My name is Dr. Gaurav Agrawal and I am going to introduce you to the fascinating art of hand reading known as palmistry in a logical and simplified manner. Palmistry as most people understand it is the art of future telling. Without saying yes or no to this, I want to say that it has a lot more to offer than just fortune telling. But hearing future predictions is of course so attractive that this great science has become synonymous to future telling. Other less organized and less logical arts such as Tarot cards, coffee readings, intuitive readings, chakra readings are also compared with this greatly precise and organized art. Here many palmists also want to show some mysticism around their personality and don’t want to let people believe that this art can be learnt with a logical and reasonable mind. I read a book in which the author introduces palmistry by saying, ‘the mystery of palm that when solved can reveal all the secrets of life’. I’ll not make such big statements, it’s out of my reach but I can assure the readers that if they learn palmistry with a logical and reasonable mind, they can learn it with ease and will find it accurate and without any need of intuition, for this is a very logical and systematic art.

This art was born in India and initially it was only a small branch of quite a big subject named ‘Samudrik Shastra’. Here the word Samudra means body and Shastra means classic, so together it means a classic about body signs. This subject included the study of the whole body, its shape, various signs, moles, scars. This included the face reading, lines in the forehead, lines in feet and the palms and also body language. Here, hand reading was only a small part of this ancient system. Later it became difficult for a person to learn everything and people started to make progress in small branches of Samudrik Shastra. Some became good in hand reading, others in feet reading, few in face reading and yet fewer others in reading the lines of the forehead. Even today, we can find quite a few people good in other branches of Samudrik Shastra.

These arts were commonly known as various systems for telling the future. This is the way these arts were advertised by most of their practitioners, and the common man looks at them with a mix of doubt and belief as they give an oil paper view to their past and future events. Among these systems hand reading being the most convenient, developed most. That’s why we see that palmistry is practiced extensively in all parts of the world. Interestingly, all of these branches of the ancient system of Samudrik Shastra point to the same thing about a person. So a person who goes to a hand reader, or to a forehead reader or to a face reader will get a similar interpretation.

Now the question arises why things such as Samudrik Shastra or Palmistry were developed. Thousands of people with great capacities, who contributed in the development of these arts, definitely saw something for the benefit of humankind. The proof that these ancient arts have been continuously appreciated for more than five thousand years is enough to make someone wonder. These systems were historically practiced and developed by the geniuses of their time in every part of the world. These arts are still alive because they have made some positive contribution in human life.

Here we are talking about palmistry only. Now as far as real palm reading is concerned it has little to do with future telling. The basic aim of palmistry has never been fortune telling; the real aim is much bigger. Suppose for a moment that a palmist predicts the future of a person, and tells him that he is going to have a bad marriage ahead and that his wife may ask for divorce in the next few years. Now, how is this information going to help this person and what positive effect has it brought to this person? One could argue that since this person is aware of his future he may take care in his life. But if it really is the future then this is of little help since these interpretations are made with such a conviction that this person may think, I’d better not get married. Or even if he marries, in the back of his mind he will be thinking that soon he’ll be divorced. He’ll say to his wife whenever they fight, I know that our marriage is going to end soon, and that palmist told me because of you it will happen.

I’ll say that palmistry wants to understand the inner potentials and weaknesses of the individual so that he can maximize the first and minimize the latter. In the past, as we all know, when a child was born his horoscope was made and his hand was shown to wise people. These astrologers and palmists would tell about his coming life, including what he was going to do in life what his education should be and his whole life in general. But why? Not for knowing all of his future in advance; it won’t
