Arnie Petrosino
Arnie Petrosino. I was raised in an Italian Catholic familyMy purpose for writing this book was to inform the many people, my family members included, about the deception that the Roman Catholic Church has perpetrated since 300 ad. I noticed this deception when I was in a Roman Catholic Seminary. I started to read the Bible, a Catholic Bible that I bought in the bookstore, and found discrepancies between what was in the Bible and what I was being taught in the classroom. A simple example was why the Roman Catholic Churches had statues and idols in them when that contradicted the Bible. First I was admonished for reading the Bible and second I was told that I had to put my faith in the Roman Catholic Church and not the Bible. This of course didn't seem right.I was to put my faith in an organization run by humans instead of God's Word the Bible. ( We hadn't gotten to the Infallibility part of the classroom training yet). It didn't take me long to leave the seminary but at that point I wasn't ready to leave the "religion".I was very active in the Roman church when I returned home. I joined the Knights of Columbus, I was an usher, a bingo caller, a money counter, and worked in the rectory office part time and I coached CYO sports. I think I was running away from the fact that I should leave the Roman Catholic Church. One day I received a call from a cousin who wanted to know if I could get him an appointment with the Bishop. He needed an annulment for his future wife because she had been married before. I knew the Bishop and his secretary because they came from my parish and I was able to get him the appointment. When I called him to find out how the meeting went he was very upset. He had not seen the Bishop but was told by the secretary that the Bishop said he could have the annulment and it would only cost him

Introduction
The purpose of this book is to compare the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church via The Catechism of the Catholic Church, with God's Word, the Bible. This is not an attempt to get you to leave the Catholic Church but rather to compare the Bible and the Catechism, giving you the material in an easy to follow format to make an informed decision about the Catholic Church.
Many who are born into the Catholic faith have very little knowledge about what the Catholic Church teaches, or where the teachings originated. This is common among most Catholics whose education consisted of memorization accomplished during childhood. Very little, if any, effort is put into explaining and understanding the material memorized. Since we grew up in the religion
and were practicing
it since childhood, we never gave much thought to what it was that we believed
or what we were practicing
. We haven't chosen these beliefs for ourselves and do what we have been taught from habit without making a real commitment to Jesus Christ.
When we start to question what we have been taught and what the proofs of our beliefs are we don‘t really have a solid foundation to lean on. And then, to make matters worse, we start to ask questions of the church we can't get any answer except you must believe because the church says so.
So we go in one of three directions:
1. We accept this and follow along, not really understanding or believing. We are frustrated in our attempt to understand and are met with annoyance and impatience on the part of the clergy. We fail to realize that they are in the same position as we are. I did this for a while!
2. We leave the Catholic Church and don't get involved with any a true church because of the bad taste we have had from the Catholic Church. We muddle along either dabbling in the occult or humanism or nothing at all. I have also been here!
3. Some of us really search for the truth. If we truly search, the Lord is faithful in helping us find the truth. I finally reached this point!
What you will find, if you read this book and the associated scriptures with an open mind, will probably amaze you. My belief, when I started the research that turned into this book, was that the Roman Catholic Church was a Christian Church that had, over the years, gone astray. What I found was that the Roman Catholic Church is no longer a true Christian Church. Hard to believe? It was for me also!
Read the book...check out all the references and make up your own mind.
Before you start here are a few helpful hints:
1.You may use whatever Bible you feel comfortable with. If you are Catholic I suggest that you use the New American Bible for Catholics.
2.You may use whatever Bible your feel comfortable with. If you are Catholic I suggest that you use the New American Bible for Catholics.
3. You need a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. You could do the study without it, but if you are a Catholic reading this, you are not going to believe what I say unless you see it for yourself. A copy is available on line at www.scborromeo.org/ccc.htm
The criteria for this study centers on the Bible and the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. How the Roman Catholic Church‘s teachings stacks up against God‘s Word, the Bible. I am not going into the proofs of the Bible being God's word. There are many excellent books on the subject available at any Christian bookstore.
We will take the position that the Bible is the Word of God, sacred scripture. Further that the Old and New Testament form one book of sacred scripture, the Bible.
The Catechism of the Catholic church states in PH# 134: as sacred scripture is but one book.........
and in PH# 121 the old testament is an indispensable part of sacred scripture
and in PH# 124: the word of God, which is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, is set forth and displays its power in a most wonderful way in the writings of the New Testament.
So we start our comparison with the understanding that the Bible is the word of God. As the Word of God it must then be accepted as truth. PH# 107 of the catechism states: "the inspired books speak the truth. Since therefore all that the inspired authors or sacred writers affirm should be regarded as affirmed by the Holy Spirit, we must acknowledge that the books of sacred scripture firmly and without error teach that truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wished to see confided in sacred scripture.
We also acknowledge the Bible is the total of sacred scripture available to man and the information contained therein is what we need to know for our salvation- no more & no less, as stated in the catechism PH #106: God inspired the authors of the sacred books. God chose certain men who, all the while He employed them in this task, made full use of their own faculties and powers so that, though He acted in them and through them, it was as true authors that they consigned to writing whatever He wanted written and no more.
To recap the guide lines of this comparison:
1. Sacred scripture (the Bible) is the Word of God.
2. The Old & New Testaments are one book of scripture.
3. That scripture is the truth.
4. Sacred scripture contains the entire plan of salvation.
5. The Holy Spirit opens our minds & hearts to understand scripture.

I ask that you read this comparison with an open mind. It was a labor of love for those who need this book. If you don't agree with what you read here check it out in God's truth, the Bible.
Throughout this book I am going to quote one scripture verse and it would be a good thing to memorize it. Not because I quote it a lot, but because before you believe anything, you should put it to the test of scripture, including what I write in this book and what the Catholic Church or any church teaches.
2 Timothy 3:16 - 17 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Chapter 1 God’s Word – The Bible
The Bible is acknowledged as God's Word by many different religions. However, some of these religions distort or interpret the Bible to suit their own purposes.
The Bible has two main sections, the Old Testament, acknowledged by both Christians & the Jewish people. This is the old covenant of the Law between God & the nation of Israel. Basically it laid down the laws & sacrifices that man had to follow for the forgiveness of sins and salvation. The New Testament or new covenant fulfills the old covenant. Christians believe that the new covenant and the coming of the Messiah are foretold in the Old Testament.
The Catholic Church, until recently, banned the reading of the Bible, God‘s Word, by lay people. There reason was, so they say, that the lay
