Spiritual Terrorism

About this ebook
Spiritual terrorism is a battle of the mind that is manifested in virtually every aspect of human existence. When Christians finally realize that they are in a spiritual war with spiritual beings, then and only then can they call upon the power and presence of the Lord Jesus Christ to give them strength and ensure their victory.

Introduction
Almost immediately after the devastating attacks on September 11, 2001 President Bush declared war on terrorism. We were angry. We called for justice. Most wanted revenge. We wanted a swift and certain victory. But when we moved as a nation from the rhetoric of war to the horrors of war, some lost heart. Commitment diminished. It was as if we couldn't put our arms around this strange enemy
of freedom. We called for meaning. We demanded an answer. Many still do.
What is terrorism? How do we put a face to this enemy? Is it the figure of an Islamic terrorist or a Chechen insurgent? Is it a person or an ideology? Just what or who is this enemy? How do we respond to such a threat? Would conventional military weapons defeat this foe?
When the allies faced off with the Axis powers during World War II, everyone knew who the enemy was. It was not just a war of ideology, philosophy, or religion. We prosecuted a war against a well-defined enemy, who was determined to conquer the world. It was crystal clear who we must defeat. And the entire nation went to war.
But I want to speak to you about an enemy that is far more dangerous than any insurgent. This enemy takes no prisoners nor does he negotiate for peace. In Islamic terrorism, suicide bombers are his pawns to perpetuate his hate. He will use both overt and covert operations to accomplish his objectives. He is a master of behind the scenes
tactics. His attacks are relentless and effective. Once he controls the mind, he controls the victim. Tragically, most victims never recognize their enemy until it's too late.
Christians are faced daily with a spiritual war that involves more people, causes unbelievable destruction, and leads to more confusion than any military war. Any one of us who fails to recognize the reality of this warfare will experience defeat, discouragement, and in extreme cases, death. Whether you know it or not, you are at war! It began the moment of your conversion and it will continue until the day you physically die.
It is spiritual terrorism.
It is a battle for the hearts and minds of believers around the world. If you think you are exempt from the battles, you are sadly mistaken. If you think you can talk your way out of conflict, you are sadly mistaken. If you think that you can negotiate for peace, you are dead wrong!
You have never experienced dread and fear until you have faced this enemy. Their forces are organized and trained. They know your strengths and weaknesses, and they will attack any time, any place. They will attack when you're alone or when you're with friends. Young or old, male or female, strong or weak—they will attack! And they will not accept your surrender!
Welcome to reality!
Join me on a journey into the world of armed spiritual conflict. We will start with the enlistment process and learn about ourselves and our enemy. We will learn to prepare for battle, engage the enemy, and return victoriously. Many of us will carry the wounds of hand-to-hand combat. We will learn of acts of bravery, and we will wince at moments of cowardice and failure. I guarantee this—we will be changed forever.
PART I
This is my story. For years I never wanted anything to do with the military. When I was a teacher in Ohio in the late 70's, I would receive enticing letters from the Air Force Officer Training School, inviting me to consider a military career. I threw them away immediately.
NO WAY!
Vietnam was still fresh in the minds of most Americans, and I did not want to head overseas and fight for people I did not know and who probably didn't want me there anyway.
But circumstances changed. I lost my teaching position in 1981. What a deal! I had a family, a mortgage, and no paycheck. I bounced around from job to job—even getting an insurance license. But I hated sales, so that never worked out. Desperate, I remembered those recruiting letters. I must have been crazy. I called the local Air Force office and they invited me to come down to talk. No pressure. No promises. No commitments. Just a friendly talk. One thing led to another and I found myself signing the enlistment papers. I must have lost my mind!
Yet as I recall, everything seemed to fall into place. I had the college degree they were looking for. I passed the physical. I met the age requirement (I was 29 at the time and had to be commissioned before my 30th birthday). Everything just worked out. No disconnected, fragmented circumstances, but all part of the definite plan of God—His determined will for my life. I couldn't have found His specific purpose for me in a book or from the advice of well-meaning friends. This was set before I took my first breath.
As I look back, it was frightening and exciting.
The rest is history. I served twelve years and was released from active duty in 1996. It was a great experience with many moves (the kids loved it). I finished as a flight commander at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. We moved to Texas and I started my ministry.
So what?
you may ask. What does this have to do with joining God's army?
Good question. Here's the answer.
My military career was no accident. The circumstances leading to that experience were no accident. And the many decisions and choices were guided and influenced by the Holy Spirit. I could sense His presence in every major change. At times I just got out of His way and watched Him work.
What is God's role in the salvation experience? How were you and I saved? Theologians call it election. The apostle Paul told his readers, ...He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.
(Ephesians 1:4) I believe that God has chosen many but NOT all to salvation through Jesus Christ. And He will bring the elect
(the chosen ones) to a saving knowledge of Christ. This is His predetermined will. It cannot be altered. We don't choose Him. He chooses us. We don't seek after God. He seeks us. We don't choose when we will be saved. God makes that determination.
Arrogant people, who make the salvation experience a matter of personal preference, are fooling themselves. Before
