Introduction
In today’s modern world, we typically think of our hair as an accessory. It can enhance our beauty to make us more glamorous, more serious, cutting edge, whimsical or youthful. There are a lot of stereotypes that revolve around hairstyles and even colors. Blondes are less intelligent, but tend to have more fun, right? Well, we all know that’s not necessarily the case.
Biologically, our hair serves the purpose of protecting our skin against the elements – that’s truly why it’s there. But because we have evolved and created many ways to protect ourselves over the centuries, hair tends to simply be an adornment.

While we go about changing our hair to the style we desire, it’s important to first understand what our hair is like at its foundation. If it’s naturally oily or dry, thick or thin, coarse or fine and whether or not it is predisposed to growing longer, or if it will simply look thin and wispy if it grows beyond our shoulders.
There are certainly ways to synthetically enhance your natural hair, but learning to work with what you’ve got – and learning to like it, too – will
