How not to conduct an interview
The objectives of the Guide
As your career develops, you will, sooner or later, find yourself facing an interview not as a candidate but as one of those ogres: the Interview Panel. You may even find yourself being the Interview Panel chairperson: the one in the middle of the interrogators.
Probably you will think this forthcoming trial worse than when you were interviewed as a candidate. Then, all you had to do was show yourself to the best of your ability. Now you are behind the table on the other side. This is going to be far more stressful! You want to show the Chairperson and your colleagues on the panel that you know your subject, that you are confident, well-informed, are bursting with penetrating and challenging questions, and that you have perceptiveness and excellent judgement. Not too much of a challenge, then?
Actually, if you prepare yourself and follow this Cognito Guide, you will find you can deal with those stressful issues and still concentrate on the real task: conducting a dialogue with the candidates and helping choose the best one for the job.
