About this ebook

Many women are caught by surprise when the process of peri menopause and Menopause begins.
Perhaps, day by day, you’ve been finding yourself slipping deeper and deeper into the process of becoming your mother, aunt, or dare we say, grandmother- and now you’re panicking...

Perhaps too, your life has whizzed by these past few years and you’ve slipped a bit where taking care of yourself, your health- and your needs are concerned. Have you’ve packed on pounds or lost muscle tone? Has your diet degraded to grab and go stuff, long on calories but short on nutrients? Are you feeling bad and looking worse?

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. This is unfortunately a common theme in the lives of millions of women ages 40-60, but take heart: help is here!

Carrie E. Pierce and Gail Sophia Edgell, co hosts of the nationally syndicated radio show ‘Magnificent Menopause and Beyond’ have created the ‘What the Hell is Happening to Me©’ book series and are sharing their vast knowledge of the subject so you don’t have to suffer anymore!
‘From Flab to Fab’ (book two of this six part series) addresses in detail many of the diet, lifestyle and fitness issues facing peri menopausal and Menopausal women today, and offers not only excellent advice and resource listings to help you on your quest for healthier living, but a customized exercise routine that takes just moments a day to complete and addresses many of the Menopause-related fitness and health danger zones that can- and often do- bring many a
Menopausal woman crashing down. And all this great information is offered in laymen’s lingo and with a dash of humor that you won’t mind reading.

‘From Flab to Fab’ discusses Menopause specific nutrition, busts exercise and diet myths head on, and offers the most accurate and cutting edged information available on the topic today. ‘From Flab to Fab’ builds off of book one of the series and serves to take the peri menopausal/Menopausal reader to the second stage of education and awareness.

Menopause is a perfectly natural phase in a woman’s life, but is often not treated as such by mainstream medicine. We’re taught to feel that Menopause is in fact a ‘failing’ of our bodies, an ailment that must be corrected by drugs, be they synthetic hormones, antidepressants, diuretics, tranquilizers or worse.

Yes, of course, this time of transition often brings with it numerous beauty and health challenges, depression, and a host of other physical, mental and emotional challenges. We would be lying if we pretended otherwise.

But, if handled properly and approached from a place of understanding and awareness, it doesn’t have to be a horrible thing!

That’s where this book series comes in. There IS a better way- and Gail and Carrie are here to help you discover it!

    Introduction

According to the North American Menopause Society, it’s now thought approximately 4,000 American women enter Menopause each day; comprising a yearly tally estimated to be 2 million + women per year hitting the Menopausal benchmark. -That’s a sizable sorority in which to belong!

Given those impressive numbers, one could safely assume that Menopause is a growing and dynamic enterprise, and little about it remains misunderstood or a mystery.

If you made that assumption however, you’d be wrong. Very, very wrong.

Recent studies indicate that women actually know little more about this profound life change than their mothers and grandmothers did before them. -Sad but true.

Women are struggling to find correct information about the process, support to help them as they make the journey themselves, - for help and guidance in general as they make The Change and then go on to create a new life for themselves, many decades after the Change.

Menopause seems to be either ignored by our society- or treated as a disease process- instead of a normal and perfectly natural stage of a woman’s life cycle. Because of these variables, women are being left to flounder as they watch their bodies change, struggle with the emotional upheaval that so often accompanies the process- and worry as they move through the aging process alone and uninformed.

All is made even worse if they heaven forbid, find themselves suffering from physical conditions made worse by the Menopause process, i.e.: Osteopenia, Osteoporosis, Metabolic Syndrome, Diabetes or other auto immune conditions…

What to do? What not to do? What to try? What to eliminate? What to believe??? It can be- and often is- for many, simply overwhelming.

That’s why we’ve created this book series. To help shed light on the changes you might be experiencing and provide you with the information and guidance you need to de-mystify the process, and help you gain your footing so that you might then be free to gain the many gifts and profound blessings inherent during this highly personal journey.

It’s a fact: numerous changes begin to occur as women age, especially during the peri-menopausal and Menopausal years; muscle mass, cardiovascular endurance, balance and flexibility all begin to decline as a woman hits midlife. This is documented fact.

You might’ve been able to get away with not exercising for the first 40 years of your life, but in order to maintain your weight and bone mass, and reduce the risk of injury, exercise now must be thought of as a necessity -not an option- from here on out!

In the last 20 years, we’ve seen a trend with women: No longer are they thinking 45 years of age is ‘old’ or the beginning of decline.

Women are experiencing a sense of renewal and rejuvenation at this stage of life and are choosing to experience the peri menopause/Menopause years as a time of rebirth.

One reason this is happening is because women are finally learning to respect their bodies- and themselves as a Whole. They’re finally putting ‘me time’ on their To Do Lists and are making exercise part of their daily regimens
