    Jill lifted the wine glass to her lips and sipped, then gulped, the red liquid inside. As she choked back a sob a drop of wine fell on the photo in her other hand. The wine made a purple spot on the face smiling back at her. She leaned back against the couch, stretching her legs out across the floor. She put the photo down and picked up another. In this one she and Sarah were holding each other and smiling at the camera, the distant mountains were grey in the background. She frowned, where was this? Her alcohol fogged brain couldn’t remember. She tossed the photo on the floor and picked up another. She gulped the last of her wine, not even trying to stem the tears that streamed down her face.

    She put the wine glass on the floor and held the photo with two hands. Oh, Sarah… she whispered, sliding her thumb across the beautiful face. This picture had always been her favourite. It
