    Chapter 1: Introduction

No other revolutionary leader has influenced the modern world as has Castro, for his impregnable ideology kept him the leader of his people in Cuba for more than four decades. Fidel Alejandro Vittore Castro Ruz was born on August 13, 1926, on a sugar plantation in Birán, near Mayarí, in the modern-day province of Holguín. In the past it was a part of the now-defunct Oriente province.

Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, commonly called Castro, is a Cuban politician and former president. Fidel Castro was one of the primary leaders of the Cuban Revolution; he served as the Prime Minister of Cuba from February 1959 to December 1976, and then as the President of the Council of State of Cuba and the president of Council of Ministers of Cuba until his resignation from the office in February 2008. He currently serves as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, a position he has held since its inception in 1965. Fidel Castro was born into a wealthy family and he was fortunate enough to be provided the best of the education available during that period. He was a very hard working and curious student and he successfully earned his Law Degree. While he was studying the University of Havana, he began stepped into the politics of the country and with the progression of time became a recognized figure in Cuban politics. Fidel Castro was a highly impressive orator right from his college days and his speeches drew huge gatherings of the students. His political career continued with nationalist critiques of the president, Fulgencio Batista, and of the United States' political and corporate influence in Cuba. He gained an ardent, but limited, following and also drew the attention of the authorities. He eventually led the failed 1953 attack on the Moncada Barracks, after which he was captured, tried, incarcerated, and later released.

Castro, finally, decided to go to Mexico to organize and train the rebels for an invasion of Cuba to overthrow Batista's government, which began in December 1956.

Batista regime was backed by the U. S. and it was unimaginable to overthrow that regime. Fidel Castro led the Cuban Revolution and after a long and bloody struggle he succeeded in overthrowing the Batista Regime. A few days after the removal of the Batista Regime, Fidel Castro became Prime Minister of Cuba. In 1965 he became First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, and led the transformation of Cuba into a one-party socialist republic. In
