Picturesque Towns and Villages of Scotland
The small villages and towns of Scotland have a special place in my heart. I have placed them on the top of my list of beautiful places I have visited on my travels. There is something about these picturesque villages and towns that keep drawing me back. I think I have a special affinity with those closest to the sea.
The antiquity of many of these towns and villages, with their quaint stone and thatch cottages and narrow cobbled roads bordered by exquisitely packed stone walls, that look as though they have been there forever, gives me a sense of peace and tranquility. The older the towns and villages are, the more I enjoy visiting them. It gives one a sense of security to visit a place that has been there for centuries; it’s like nothing has changed only the people have.
There are beautiful unique areas of Scotland that are not on the common trodden tracks; a visit to the more remote parts of Scotland will reveal many secret attractions and offer you many pleasant surprises.

A Loch is a narrow inlet of the sea. Dun
is a prefix often heard
