Introduction
The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, you're still a rat.

The rat race is generally described as a way of life in which people are caught up in a fiercely competitive struggle for wealth or power. But the term rat race has changed over time. Its colloquial use in the first half of the 1900's alluded to a rat's desperate struggle for survival. This was a metaphor for the fierce competition of maintaining or improving one's position in the workplace or social ladder.
The more recent use of the term alludes to the futile existence of lab rats. Lab rats run mazes daily and receive a prize at
