Introduction
Life as a married couple is not as easy as most people imagined when they started out on their journey together. This doesn’t mean it’s not worth every bit of the energy, time, and emotion invested in the relationship. Would it really be possible to attach value to something that cost nothing? Certainly not. Every treasure on this earth has its price. Whether we choose to pay the price or not, however, is up to us.
The treasure of a long-lasting marriage relationship is worth far more than the investment we make. A deep friendship that is based on more than superficial attraction and a love that is stronger than the ebb and flow of human emotions is the ultimate prize for those who choose to stay in the race. Although every marriage has a history of mistakes, the good marriages turn these mistakes into gems of wisdom that increase the value of the relationship.
But good marriages are only as strong as the people who make the choices. Each day, couples face the choice of living for themselves as individuals or for each other as a unit. If they both choose to overlook minor sources of frustration and focus on the value of maintaining unity over personal preferences, they will discover that the joy of working together is greater than the sacrifices each may have to make.
This does not mean, however, that there are not times in which couples need to have serious discussions about how to meet each other’s needs. Men and women have basic needs that must be met if they are to function successfully on a daily basis. The marriage relationship is the perfect condition for meeting these needs as long as both partners are willing to
