Advanced Paintball Tactics - Fire, Movement, Ambush, Offense, Defense, Night
()
About this ebook
Webster's Dictionary defines a 'team' as a group of people working together for common purpose. A team working together, using teamwork, should be exerting a force greater than the sum of all individual players. If the force exerted is not greater than the sum of all players, then it is not a team; it is a group of disorganized individuals. This group of individuals will be decimated by a properly trained and organized paintball team, acting in unison with one common goal; eliminate the opposition and win the game.
This manual is a guide for paintball players and teams. It will give individual players, squad leaders, and team leaders the basic guidance on how to play as a paintball team. Techniques, tactics, and procedures that pertain to most simulated combat situations are covered. Small-unit training and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) will add most of the detail necessary to execute these tactics. The use of assets found within the team will be emphasized in this manual, and by doing so, team doctrine will be developed.
The tactics you learn from this manual are not strictly for tournament play; they are tactics to be used in all paintball scenarios; from recreational play on weekends, to twenty-four hour scenarios, to night games.
This manual does not include information on what type of gun to buy or where to buy it. It does not contain the rules of paintball, or rules of specific game scenarios. You will not find advice on equipment modifications, upgrades, desirable and undesirable features of equipment, or accessories available. What you will find is the guidelines to form and train a paintball team that will be coordinated, cohesive and controlled, in all paintball situations. Your paintball team will move and act in unison.
This manual assumes you are beyond the beginner stage and are ready to enter the realm of advanced, small-unit paintball tactics. You will learn not only to defeat the opposition, but to psychologically destroy him in the process.
Paintball teams must train to defeat opposing teams on any field or terrain. This will require bold and aggressive leadership that will perform the necessary tasks in pursuit of mission accomplishment. They must be capable of using their initiative and of making snap decisions to take advantage of unexpected opportunities. All players of the team must be aggressive, physically fit, disciplined, and well-trained.
Training and tactics must stress the importance of playing in dense, close terrain, such as forests, jungles, mountains and urban areas. Against heavier forces, the successful paintball team must choose to engage them, by maneuver, on terrain that favours the team's unique abilities.

Seeking adventure that no established trail could provide, Gerald turned to off-trail hiking as the means to go where no one has gone before. A veteran of many gruelling and punishing treks, including a risky solo passage of the fabled "Fool's Gold Route", an unmarked wilderness journey that is said to be attempted by few and successfully completed by even fewer, he is no stranger to the virtually impenetrable underbrush of the Pacific Northwest. Ten years spent working in the helicopter timber salvage industry gives Gerald a unique insight that can bring you into the stark reality of the rainforest using words alone. He now lives in the forest on Lasqueti Island, BC, Canada.

Webster's Dictionary defines a 'team' as a 'group of people working together for common purpose'. A team working together, using teamwork, should be exerting a force greater than the sum of all individual players involved. This is a team. If the force exerted is not greater than the sum of all players involved, it is not a team; it is a group of disorganized individuals. This group of individuals will be decimated by a properly trained and organized paintball team, acting in unison with one common goal; eliminate the opposition and win the game.
This manual is only a guide for paintball players and teams. It will give individual players, squad leaders, and team leaders the basic guidance on how to play as a paintball team. Techniques, tactics, and procedures that pertain to most simulated combat situations are covered, but it will not provide the tactical solutions to all tactical situations. Small unit training and standard operating procedures will add most of the detail necessary to execute these tactics.
Paintball team leaders should be expected to learn and use the techniques, procedures, and tactics outlined in this manual to develop detailed estimates of situations. They can then apply this information to formulate effective game-plans to accomplish the missions at hand. From this a team doctrine will develop.
They will move and act in unison. They will work together to achieve the common purpose; victory.
This manual assumes you are beyond the beginner stage and are ready to enter the realm of advanced, small-unit paintball tactics. You will learn not only to defeat the opposition, but to psychologically destroy him in the process.
Paintball is a game of honour. There are various ways to cheat at paintball, but a cheater is only cheating himself. This manual will not give you any information on how to cheat. If caught cheating, a player not only disgraces and dishonours himself, but his unit and his entire team as well.
The normal method of operation of a paintball team is the use of decentralized, small-unit tactics. The number of players that can be controlled by one leader is limited; therefore, the squad is the largest body of players under the command of one leader. The squad leaders control their squads and the team leader controls the squads. This creates the system known as 'the chain of command.' The employment of this system ensures that any number of players can be directly controlled by a single leader to execute a single plan.
Paintball teams must train to defeat opposing teams on any field or terrain. A paintball team must be organized to play on any field and win.
Drills link player and leader tasks into well-planned, effective team action to speed the execution of critical tasks once a decision has been made. Drills provide a focus for training.
Chapter One: Organization
The most effective and lethal weapon on the paintball field is the mind of the leader. A leader must understand the theory of small-unit tactics and pass them on to the players he trains and leads. The individual players of the team must make up forces that can seek out and defeat the opposition on his territory using initiative, stealth, surprise, infiltration and ambush, at night if necessary.
A paintball team can operate as a complete unit or as separate squads. The tasks of key personnel must be defined in detail, coordinated and understood by all team members. The ultimate duty of all team players is to follow orders supplied by the leaders of the team.
The leaders of paintball teams have a tough job. They must mold an unruly mob of undisciplined individuals into a highly responsive paintball team capable of closing with the opposition, shattering his will to resist, and then eliminate him from the game. This close, personal style of play requires aggressive units made up of highly skilled players and resourceful leaders. This type of team is the result of strict training and discipline, physical and mental toughness, well-honed skills and highly capable leadership.
Paintball team and squad leaders must be expert tacticians. They must be the most capable and skilled players of the team. The leadership provided by them will determine the team's chances of victory, or defeat. They cannot respond mechanically to the conditions on the playing field with predetermined actions. Leaders must use maneuver to close with the opposition, and fire and movement to eliminate him from the game. This places great responsibility on the squad leader. The success of the squad leader is measured by how he achieves the objectives and intent of the team leader. To fulfill this intent, and meet these objectives, there are many things the squad leader must know to plan an effective strategy.
Tactical leaders planning for the game must know how to use initiative, take independent action, analyze the situation, and make fast, snap decisions. Many of these mental aspects of the game must be decided before the first paintball is fired.
There is a time for taking swift, risky, or bold action in order to accomplish the mission in a chaotic, noisy, hectic environment; and there is a time to be overcautious, meek and still. Initiative, on the leader's part, often leads
