December 21, 2012: Survival Guide
()
About this ebook
A large proportion of Earth’s population believes that December 21, 2012 will mark the onset of Armageddon – whether biblical or otherwise. Others proclaim that the human race will somehow be enlightened on this date, and that it will be the dawn of a Golden Age. Still others laugh at the idea of anything cataclysmic devastating the globe.
Can we afford to scoff with some of the scientific evidence to support possible catastrophe, such as our sun’s current activity, which even NASA admits concern over?
December 21, 2012: Survival Guide explores some of the theories, predictions and science about this date, but focuses more on survival in nature and a post-apocalyptic world. Much of the information included can be used in everyday life, even if there is no cataclysm, and knowing the planet you live on is never a bad idea.
Discover factual evidence of past cataclysms and ancient legends. Learn how to build your own survival bunker or outdoor shelter. Understand the human body, how much it can endure and what keeps it alive. Gain survival knowledge like fire making with unconventional means, basic first aid, and self-defence tips that even children and the elderly can learn to defend themselves with if attacked.

Introduction
There are myriad theories regarding December 21, 2012 – most are typical doom and gloom talk; others predict enlightenment and a nicer world. I promote none of these theories specifically, but I do believe that all the signs point towards something major happening. While most of the ancient predictions speak of the world as we know it, not the world, ending, this doesn’t necessarily mean that most – or any – of us will survive. The Earth will probably still be around after December 21, 2012, but will the human race?
For those who aren’t familiar with the 2012 predictions, I’ve included a chapter detailing the various theories and predictions about what may occur on this infamous date, and a chapter on the various signs of potential cataclysm – you make up your mind about whether or not we should be concerned. I believe the world as we know it will cease to exist and a new world will emerge. Good or bad, we need to prepare ourselves mentally and otherwise for any eventuality. Mental preparedness is often more difficult than physical preparations, especially if one is unsure of what changes – if any – will take place. Just know that you may very well need to adjust your mindset and possibly even your opinions on some things.
December 21, 2012, Survival Guide focuses on the theories concerning December 21, 2012, scientific facts relevant to the date, and survival in a worst case scenario, assuming natural cataclysms and resulting chaos. From those things vital to survival to those that increase survival chances and those that merely make life more comfortable, this is intended to be the ultimate survival handbook for surviving any cataclysmic event and the aftermath, which history shows us is often worse than the event itself. Most information included is in point form for easier remembering and referral, also making this book a handy checklist.
My hope is that those who don’t believe the predictions will be entertained and learn new, interesting things or join us ‘believers’ in our preparations, and those who already believe will have the tools to aid continued existence should the worst occur. When December 21, 2012 arrives, I’d rather be paranoid, prepared and wrong than happy, unprepared and wrong. What about you?
Chapter 1
December 21, 2012 Theories, Predictions and Science
Myriad theories and predictions exist regarding what exactly will happen on December 21, 2012. Nobody knows for sure, though we have plenty of information to give us some idea of the ‘might happens’ – enough to tell us that there’s a good chance we need to be mentally awake, perhaps even spiritually awake, and certainly enough to prompt us to prepare for the worst, just in case…
This is not a comprehensive list of theories and predictions, but the most popular and interesting ones are described here. Are any of them right? Would the Powers That Be in this world admit it if there is a worldwide cataclysm looming? I’m not convinced they would – it would surely cause global panic and chaos, because they couldn’t possibly save us all. They would, in effect, lose their control over most of us. While I believe that there is truth to many conspiracy theories, there are also plenty of conspiracy theorists out there who are just plain paranoid and see conspiracy in everything and, I think, just like the attention this gets them and the upset and panic it causes some.
Keep in mind that there have been many doomsday prophecies for specific dates that have long passed without any devastating event, although this doesn’t prove that all doomsday prophesies are the products of imaginative, paranoid minds. It’s hard to differentiate between founded and unfounded paranoia without some facts. Take a look at some of the theories and what experts say, and decide for yourself.
December 21, 21 Galactic Alignment
Some say once every 26, 000 years there is a galactic alignment wherein Earth is aligned with its sun, and the sun with the centre of the Milky Way, which is said to be the centre of the galaxy. This is said to happen on December 21 every year – the winter solstice. According to USA Today, this alignment will disrupt the usual flow of energy from the Milky Way’s centre to Earth, at approximately 11:11 p.m. universal time.
Others, including NASA and most mainstream scientists, say this alignment, called the December Solstice, takes place every December and is nothing to worry about.
Pole Shift – Earth
According to NASA, the Earth’s magnetic poles reverse every few thousand years, but not instantaneously – the reversal process takes a few thousand years, and our magnetic poles don’t disappear during that time. Instead, the magnetic lines near the surface of Earth become distorted and disorderly, and may appear in unusual areas on Earth. However, the magnetic field still covers our entire planet, ever protecting us from the dangers of space, such as solar storms and space radiation.
This magnetic pole reversal is quite normal for Earth and occurs approximately every 26, 000 years when Earth moves above and below the galactic equator as it completes an orbit around the galactic centre.
Since no magnetic pole shift has occurred in recorded human history, no one can really say for definite what effect this will have on Earth and its inhabitants. However, we can theorise based on scientific facts we’ve learnt throughout history, and some believe there is a very good chance that a magnetic pole shift will wreak havoc on Earth, possibly changing the planet’s rotation so it spins in the opposite direction. While this cannot be proven at this point in time, NASA scientists say that the science of magnetism tells us that a reversal is possible and that, if the magnetic poles reverse, so will Earth’s rotation.
If this reversal occurs, the Earth will become unstable and global cataclysm will ensue. Large portions of Earth would experience tsunamis and flooding due to reversed tides, tectonic plates would shift, causing earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, and massive storms would devastate the planet.
While this doesn’t necessarily mean that all life on Earth would be wiped out – there would be safe zones that aren’t affected so badly – many would die, and any survivors would have to learn to live in a new world without the civilisation we grew up in.
What makes some panic is the fact that Earth’s magnetic field seems to be diminishing. Physicists monitoring the field say that it has lost ten percent of its charge since it was first measured in 1835, and some experts and theorists believe that this is a sign of a magnetic pole reversal.
Pole Shift – Sun
According to NASA, our sun’s poles reverse every eleven years, at the peak of every sunspot cycle, and this reversal is due again in 2012. The difference in 2012, however, is that scientists predict maximum solar activity on our sun,
