      INTRODUCTION

      The purpose of this book is neither to spare your feelings nor to waste your time. You are reading this because you want to succeed in the world of online dating. Maybe you have tried other ways of dating and not gotten the results you wanted. Maybe you lack confidence or perhaps you are out of shape and n ot especially attractive. Or, maybe you are a handsome stud who is looking to move from the bar scene to the online world because it offers a bigger pond with more fish. Whatever the case, you are looking for quality advice, not a recitation of clichés. You want a straightforward series of steps that will get the girl from your dream profile into your arms.

      This book is not going to tell you to just be yourself or honesty is the best policy or any other such banal nonsense. Dating is a lot like getting a job. Just like you put together a resume that presents you in the best light possible, you put together a dating profile to showcase your best parts. And just like you sell yourself in an interview to try and get the job, you sell yourself on a date to try and get the girl. Effective dating is, at the end of the day, about selling yourself.

      But wait a second, you might say, that is not a healthy way to approach a relationship. Love is about building trust and developing a meaningful connection, but selling yourself sounds like it reduces a relationship to a marketing scam. That may be a valid point, but this book is not about building a relationship. This book is about online dating and, specifically, creating an initial spark of romance with a woman whom you find online and deem to be attractive. Should that initial dating success lead to something more serious, that is a whole different zip code from what is explored here and will require an entirely separate set of books.

      CHAPTER 1: PICKING THE SITES

      You can be the greatest fisherman in the world, but if you go to a river with few fish, you will have a worse catch than the first-timer who casts his rod in a teeming pond. Nowhere is this metaphor more applicable than the world of online dating. It is vitally important to find a site that has a lot of female members, both in general and in proportion to the number of male members.

      To fully appreciate this point, consider the true story of John and Dave, two friends from the same high school in Northern California. John was athletic and handsome, with an inherent sense of style, and went out with a number of attractive girls from the high school. By contrast, Dave was an overweight and geeky introvert who could only land a successful date with his right hand.
