Why should you improve your memory?

It is a fact that most people who succeed in life have an above average memory.

If you’re looking for an edge in today’s highly competitive job market, your memory is it. It doesn't matter if you're self-employed, if you work for a huge corporation or if you're a top executive - an improved memory gives you the edge. You will be more successful and earn more money if you have a better memory. Bottom line.

Imagine forgetting an important person's name at a key meeting. Ouch! You do not want to go there!

If you're a salesperson, keep in mind that simply being able to remember your clients' names is hugely impressive to them. And you can memorize other personal information about all the people you deal with. Imagine how impressed a client would be with you if you asked after their spouse and kids by name.

And not only that, you could also have client's names, phone numbers and email addresses, as well as all the detailed information about your products and services at your mental fingertips without ever having to refer to notes. This makes you hugely impressive not only to your boss, but to your clients as well.

If you're the manager of a large company, you can have figures ready to quote at any time right off the top of your head. If you never seem forgetful or never struggle to find the important information when it matters you make a lasting impression on those who can make a difference in your career. You're more likely to receive a promotion over someone whose memory is not so adept.

More and more these days we're required to learn new skills and take in massive amounts of new information at the workplace. If you're better at doing this you'll go further. It's that simple. I think you get the picture by now.

People with better memories have a tremendous advantage. Isn't it time you gave yourself that advantage?

Imagine being able to remember lists of hundreds - even thousands - of names or items perfectly, and still be able to recall them months later - to know them as well as you know your own name.

YOU can do these things!

If you're a student, imagine having a permanent cheat sheet inside your head.

Memorize entire books, plays, scripts or speeches
Actually raise your I.Q.
Get excellent exam results
Cut your study time in half
Have even better recall of what you st

By the time you have finished this book, you will understand the truth of that statement, and you will be capable of some truly astonishing memory feats. Improve both your concentration and your imagination.

Memorize grocery and to-do lists without the need for those annoying little scraps of paper.

Remember all the events of your life from this day forward.

Remember any event from your past.

If you're a student of any age, the memory techniques you're about to learn will simply be invaluable to you. But in addition to improving your memory, you will also learn the proper way to study. You may think all this is impossible. Or if it is possible, that there's no way you could possibly do it. You may think only people like Einstein and Da Vinci would be capable of things like that.

    You'd be wrong!

Anyone can learn the memory techniques taught in this book. Learning and employing them is easy and it's fun to boot! Your imagination is going to expand as you journey through the pages of this book, and you will find yourself grinning from ear to ear as your memory improves beyond belief. You'll be amazed how truly easy it is.

I want you to be excited about learning the memory techniques you'll shortly be learning because they're worth getting excited about. They're so beneficial to every aspect of your life that you'll be shaking your head once you've learned them, saying, If only I had learned all this stuff in school! Everything would have been so much easier!

Regrettably, these memory techniques are not taught as part of the regular curriculum in schools. That's a shame, because it causes most of us to stumble through life with untrained memories. We think we're not necessarily all that bright. We think we have bad memories. But what you're about to learn will set you free from all such thoughts.

The truth is that you have a perfect memory. Everyone does! Your mind is the most powerful supercomputer in the world, totally unmatched by any machine when it comes to capacity and ability to learn. When you own a computer that powerful, it's worth learning how to use it properly!

    Chapter 1

    An Untrained Mind

Okay, I know what you're thinking now. If what you just read is true, why isn't everyone a genius, a walking encyclopedia? If my memory is so perfect, how come I'm always forgetting where I put my car keys?

Well, the problem isn't one of storage capacity, or ability to store information. Your brain is phenomenally powerful in that area. Your brain remembers everything you're exposed to. It's true!

You know how sometimes when you're daydreaming, you'll think of something that's happened to you in the past - maybe a particularly pleasant picnic you had one day with your family some 20 years ago when you were a kid. There was nothing very remarkable about the day, and yet you can remember it in vivid detail.

You can picture the scene in your mind. You remember what the weather was like, what kind of car your parents had, what you had to eat, what games you played with your brothers and sisters. Your memory of that day is perfect. It's an extremely visual and sensory experience. You remember the sounds, smells and feelings.

Then sometimes someone will walk by you wearing a particular perfume that one of your old school teachers used to wear. Instantly and involuntarily your mind is inundated with images of that teacher, her class, the classroom, the other children there. You can picture it all perfectly, just like you were there again, even if it happened 20 or more years ago. You may then start daydreaming about events that took place in that classroom, the school; you may start thinking about things you did with your friends back then. Your recall of the time and the events is perfect.

Alzheimer’s patients often completely lose their short term memory, and yet are able to recall other events of their lives that took place sometimes even 50 or more years in the past. So powerful are the memories and the images from those times that they actually believe that they are living in that time again.

The point is that all the information is in there. Everything that has ever happened to you is in there, stored in your brain. So the problem is not capacity or ability to store information. The problem is access.

See, we don't learn anything in school about how our brain works, how our memory works. Our thinking and memory machine is untrained. It's like being presented with a huge, beautifully complex computer with phenomenal power, and being given no instruction manual! You'll make some use of it, you'll muddle through. Some people will, inexplicably, do better than others, but very, very few will make full use of it.

The problem begins with the way information is stored in the first place. Or more precisely, where it is stored. Where? What do you mean 'where', I hear you crying. It's stored in my mind!

Sure, the information is stored in your mind - but where in your mind? All those names and dates and battles you learned in history class - where did you store that information in your mind?

You'll all answer, Well, I don't know - just in there somewhere.

And that's the root of the problem. If you don't know where you've put something, what chance do you think you have of being able to find it when you need it? That's why you keep losing your car keys - because you're thinking about something else when you put them down after a hard day's work. Where did I put them, you ask, scratching your head. Well, they're somewhere in the house.

The same applies with that information you learned in history, or English or
