About the Author
The enchantress
It was one of those days when the forest was bursting with life. The sudden quivering of the bushes, the swift shadow across the freshly greened tree tops, the startling shriek from the depths of the woods. It all proved that, even though one could not plainly see it, life was all around. The birds sang so unobtrusively that their song could have easily gone unnoticed, and yet, it was impossible not to feel the serenity it brought.
It was on just such a day that two riders were dragging lazily along the forest road. They rode in silence for a time, and then, in answer to the birds perhaps, the girl started humming a simple tune. Humming grew into singing, with no words but a simple, repetitive tune. Despite being so simple, it was so compelling it seemed as though the whole world had no choice but to stop and listen. Her companion smiled delightfully as he saw forest creatures, previously so quick to hide among the shadows, stick out their little noses and ears between the leaves, drawn to the notes of the song. The girl raised a delicate hand and a tiny bird landed on her finger and
