    INTRODUCTION

When I heard Barbara Walters on The View say she’d never read the Bible, I was mildly shocked. The Bible is on the list of the most important books to read at one of the most thinking-out-of-the-box colleges in the United States—St. Johns College in Maryland and a sister school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. As the all time bestseller, you would think the Bible would be not only read, but studied by our leaders, leaders of other countries, and those in media, Hollywood, and other venues where people are trying to influence the general public in one way or another. And for whatever reasons. Sun Tzu, military general and Chinese leader once said, "If you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles... if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

So, I’m wondering why the Taliban, jihadists, and terrorists of all stripes aren’t calling up the Gideons for copies of the Bible. Even Satan knows the Bible. He had to know scripture to fuel attempts at trickery when tempting Jesus during his weakest moments.

Most people these days, however, have not read the Bible and therefore, do not know what it says. And if they’ve read a verse here and a verse there, they’re not bothered enough to delve deeper and when quoting the Bible, quote out of context—some innocently out of ignorance, and others intentionally with malice aforethought. I seriously doubt many people have read the inspired Word much less studied it inductively. I couldn’t help but be amazed that someone of Walters’ intelligence—who has been around for as long as she has —has never opened the bestselling Book of all times to read it in its entirety. As I’m finishing up this manuscript, I’ve just seen the video where Ms. Walters is resigning from The View. Perhaps she’ll have more opportunities to study the Bible at her leisure now that she won’t be as busy. I’m still hoping Ms. Walters will eventually decide to tackle such a rewarding task.

You can’t read God’s Word without the story gripping your heart, knowing the world is not living according to God’s perfect plan and that what God has revealed to us is the most amazing story about His people, the grafted in gentiles who believe in Jesus Christ, and redemption. The redemption that is meant for all mankind if they’ll only accept and obey God’s Word and the teachings of Jesus—God’s One and Only Son.

With that obedience to God comes blessings, though we will never be without trials. Without obedience to God, ruin eventually prevails. In olden times, because of sin, man had to constantly sacrifice animals—shed blood—to take away sin. Then, after God’s Son was born of a Virgin Mary in God’s perfect timing, animal sacrifice was set aside since no amount of animals slaughtered could atone for sin. Only the blood of Jesus could take away the sins of man, replacing animal sacrifice. Sounds unfathomable to some, yet He was the last sacrificial lamb.

    Pretty humbling when you think
