She has illustrated several books and her work has appeared in such publications as Cricket and the San Diego Union Tribune and has been used by such companies as Patagonia and Elite Racing. Nelson received her degree in studio art from the University of California at Santa Cruz and studied printmaking for a year at the Hochschule fur Angewandete Kunst in Vienna, Austria. Currently, she splits her time between her studio and University of California San Diego Extension, where she coordinates the art and photography program.
