She first painted with a professional ar...view morePatricia Obletz was born January 7, 1943 in Buffalo, New York, to parents who supported the visual and performing arts, and people in need. She first painted with a professional artist at age five. After three years at Lake Forest College (New York University BA in History four years later), she studied fashion illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York City. After one year, she transferred to the Art Students League and for the next three she took life drawing and painting classes with Vaclav Vytlacil.
Patricia Obletz’ day jobs included assisting creative sales promotion director on MGM’s 2001: A Space Odyssey; advice columnist as Abigail Wood for Seventeen; staff writer for Modern Bride. In 1975, she moved to Chicago where she was fashion director for two retail chains; copy supervisor, Helene Curtis. Back in Buffalo in 1988, she won a New York State grant to establish Western New York Mental Health World, the award-winning quarterly journal 1992-2009. Shes been painting and volunteering full time since 1999.
Patricia has won grants to produce “Heart & Spirit Matter Fine Art and Mental Health Exhibitions 2002-04, each with discussions by panels of experts; to facilitate her ColorPlay and WordShop programs in Buffalo and Milwaukee public schools, community centers and human services agencies; to create a travelling mural of self-portraits by clients of Transitional Living Services and Milwaukee Center For Independence. After moving in 2004 to Milwaukee, she was juried into Wisconsin Visual Artists (formerly Wisconsin Painters & Sculptors).
In 2009, Patricia was awarded space on www.MilwaukeeRenaissance.com to create PeaceOfMind. Written by artist, activist and health specialists, it explores spiritual freedom through art and education.
Patricia’s art has been in juried shows since 2000, including New York State Albright-Knox Art Gallery Collectors Gallery; Kenan Center for the Arts; Hallwalls. And Wisconsin’s Museum of Wisconsin Artists; John Michael Kohler Arts Center; Sharon Lynne Wilson Arts Center; Ayzha Fine Arts; Portrait Society Gallery; Wisconsin Arts Board lobby; Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton’s “Art in the Office.” Patricia’s work has been featured in NYS by ArtVoice, Buffalo News, Spree Magazine; Niagara Pulse; in WI, by Shepherd Express; Washington Park Beat; Riverwest Currents; Milwaukee Journal Sentinel; Wisconsin State Journal; Capital Times; Art in Wisconsin.
