About this audiobook
“Elizabeth Berg’s writing is to literature what Chopin’s études are to music—measured, delicate, and impossible to walk away from until their completion.” —Entertainment Weekly
From the bestselling author of The Story of Arthur Trulove, Open House, and The Pull of the Moon, a comical yet tender look at a husband and wife trying to survive a pandemic, political fallout—and each other.
Even during the best of times, marriage can be a challenge. For Nan and Martin, this definitely is not the best of times. Trapped together while Covid rages, they do what they can to keep their sanity while keeping civil with each other. Nan holds her tongue when Martin sounds like a know-it-all, and Martin patiently waits out Nan’s stress-induced bouts of vertigo. They adopt a dog and give him a pandemic-inspired name—Divoc—that is as unsettling as it is funny. They doomwatch the news and find comfort in their shared political beliefs, so different from those of their next-door neighbor, Jerry. Clearly, Nan and Martin love and respect each other. But Nan has been keeping a secret, and when she finally tells Martin, their quarantine—and marriage—take a sudden and surprising turn.
Fans of Elizabeth Berg might recognize Nan and Martin from her bestselling novel The Pull of the Moon. In The Days of Wine and Covid, their marriage is thrown for a loop yet again, this time against the backdrop of a national crisis. Berg is unparalleled in her ability to capture the joys, sorrows, and comedy of everyday life, and to celebrate the relationships that bind us. With The Days of Wine and Covid, she reminds us that, despite our differences, we’re all in this together. It’s an optimistic and affirming capper to the challenging year that has been 2020.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved this short story. Cringey moments, such as getting a dog/naming it what they did, and her confession to having voted for... I could relate to the crying and "being able to breathe" again after the election results were shared in 2020.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it!Lived a lot of it.Narration was good. Thanks Scribd

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Melancholy yet hopeful story of a middle-aged longtime married m/f couple during the pandemic, grating and sniping at each other from too much proximity, forgiving each other and ending on a note of grace. Well written.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great writing, wonderful humor; nice to have a story reflecting current global crisises. Reviews saying it was too political & about DJT are exagerated; story does illustrate the impact and consequences in the day to day life of an older couple trying to make the best of it....

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I listened to this while I was cleaning my house and it was everything I needed. Cute little story about love, growing old, politics, and the occasional arguments between an older couple who is sick of COIVID.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I found the story of the couple very endearing, and certainly enjoyed listing to them parts of it. I also very much liked the author reading this as its nice to listen to a book the way the author has written it. I found the political parts very tedious, I did read before hand that it was mention, however it was more then I expected. Maybe I didnt enjoy this as much beause I'm not American and therefore personally chose not to follow what's going on over there.
This was still a a good listen and very funny it parts. I will surch for her other books.2 people found this helpful

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Can I give less than 1 star? Couldn't make it half way through. Not insightful, humorous or even clever. 2020 has not been fun but there is plenty to reflect on or laugh at and this author clearly missed them.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I did not enjoy the anti Trump rhetoric. I wonder if Ms Berg is still so happy and relieved with the election turnout now that butter is 5$ a pound along with a gallon of gas….. it makes me sad because I was always a big fan of hers.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5It's just two bickering boomers for the majority of the story. I felt like I was just listening to my parents divorce all over again. If you hate your husband and love boomer humor then this is the book for you.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Elizabeth Berg gets it right every time! There is humor and pathos. There is richness, bountiful love and striking honesty. This book comforts like many of her books. But it completely portrays the Covid-19 pandemic! I love it!
