About this audiobook

Had she finally met the man she longed for...or was she dreaming?
Marlie Keen was trying to lead a quiet, ordinary life. She thought the knowing -- the clairvoyance that allowed her to witness crimes as they happened -- had been destroyed in the nightmare of her past. Then one night it returned with a vengeance, and she desperately needed to find someone to make it stop.
Detective Dane Hollister of the Orlando police department had never met anyone like Marlie. He had doubts about her clairvoyance, but there was no doubt how much he desired her. Her soft, sweet scent set his blood afire, and he wanted to wrap her in his arms and chase the sadness from her eyes. To Marlie, Dane was all heat and hard muscle, and he made her body come alive as it never had before. But not even she could foresee where their passion would lead: a hungry quest for the elusive, dreamy ecstasies of love...and a dangerous journey into the twisted mind of a madman who would threaten their happiness and their lives....

This was a very good book. It started out a little slow but If you just hang in there while she sets up the plot, it is well worth it.

This was a favourite of mine when it was first published. Either my tastes have changed a lot since then, and/or the fact Linda Howard hasn't updated the cultural references has made this less appealing to me now. I've read books that authors published decades ago, where they're republished with updated cultural references while maintaining the original storyline and characters - this should have been done for this book. As it stands, it's very dated - from the sexist attitude towards women, to the off-colour comments, and the cultural references to TV shows no longer relevant - these aspects of the book all take away from enjoyment of the story. The premise is interesting and there is suspense at times, as well as hot love scenes (not that this is essential for me to enjoy a romantic mystery), but not enough to overcome the fact it's dated. And note, Linda Howard is (was?) one of my favourite authors and I love some of her other fantasy books like "Now You See Her." There was also something one of the main characters did that really didn't sit well with me (won't give details that could spoil the suspense).
