About this audiobook

Sought-after social media influencer Sara Vance, in recovery from an eating disorder, is coming into her own, with
a potential career expansion on the horizon. Despite the good news, her successful siblings (and their perfect spouses)
have a way of making her feel like the odd one out. So, when her unreliable boyfriend is a no-show for a Florida family
vacation, Sara recruits Luis Navarro—a firefighter paramedic and dive captain willing to play the part of her smitten
fiancé …
Luis’s big Cuban familia has been in Key West for generations, and his quiet strength feeds off the island’s laidback
style. Though guarded after a deep betrayal, he’ll always help someone in need—especially a spunky beauty with a
surprising knowledge of Spanish curse words. Soon, he and Sara have memorized their “how we met” story and are
immersed in family dinners, bike tours, private snorkeling trips … sharing secrets, and slow, melting kisses. But when
it’s time for Sara to return home, will their island romance last or fade with the stunning sunset?

    Warning(s)!
Not sure if should also add a TW or spoiler alert, mental health - something alert?
***Don't read if you're picky about how reviews are supposed to be written, this is a personal rant ***
English is not my mother tongue - there are spelling AND grammatical errors below

I did not enjoy this book as much as I wanted to because of the LACK of respect that the protagonist family has for HER and her wellbeing is astounding.
And the thing is - it's super normal; i'd like to keep my fiction as utopic as possible, since i'm already aware of how fucked up a family can manipulate you; BOTH of them were made to feel super judged at one point or the other and although there were redeeming moments and a nice ending i felt icky the entire time. I was not able to enjoy their chemistry and banter.

Island Affair is the first in a series from Priscilla Oliveras. When Sara Vance arrives in Key West for a week long vacation with her family, her "boyfriend" Ric tells her he isn't coming. Now Sara, who told her parents that she was dating seriously is stuck. She sees handsome Luis Navarro and proposes that he pretend to be her boyfriend. Both Sara and Luis are dealing with some emotional baggage, Sara from an eating disorder, and feeling that she doesn't measure up to her siblings. Luis is still hurting from the death of his fiancee who cheated on Luis with his younger brother. This is a cute romance, but I thought there was a lot of repetition about why they were sad, and needed to overcome these issues. I really had a hard time believing someone would go along with this plan! Thanks to #BetweenTheChapters for the copy.

If you're looking for a hot romance, look no further! Not only is this a hot locale, it includes a fireman and a stranded woman in need of a "date" to act as her lover to save face... and in true romcom fashion, he's going to save the day.

The timing just fits - Luis has a mandated week off work and Sara needs a fiance to show off to her family. The sparks are flying and it's a good thing that Luis knows how to fight fire...

The latin flair is front and center and I was able to picture myself right there in Key West. I felt the sun on my shoulders, kicked up my feet, and drowned myself in this book. One of the best qualities is that it's a quick read - once you get started, you won't want to stop.

Overall, I loved the style of writing Priscilla Olivares. It's told from two points of view, each equally important. The characters are built well and the plot is carefully crafted.

Are you ready to read a sizzling hot romance set in the paradise of Key West?Get ready to learn why Key West firefighter Luis Navarro has been given a mandatory week off from work and as he's about to climb into his truck why he can't resist pausing for a conversation with Sara Vance. Will Luis spend his forced time off in the role of her boyfriend to enjoy a week's vacation with Sara and her family?Without a doubt this contemporary romance has the burning heat of sexual chemistry that is sizzling hot and not just from the Key West sun. But with each conversation Luis and Sara are both wondering if a week of flaming passion is all it is.Priscilla Oliveras creates an intricate tale that is more than romance by creating characters with depth and unfolding the layers of their past that influence the present and sometimes hold the future captive. I didn't expect a contemporary romance to have moments like a page-turning thriller but my interest was held on so many levels not wanting to miss a detail of the beautiful setting in Key West, the drama of the differences in how siblings view relationships with each other and their perceptions based on the parenting they received dependent on birth order, their own life experiences and the relationships they now have with a significant other or in their own role as a parent, and the factor of expectations "falling in" to a family business or profession held by many in the family from both the parent's view and the child's view.I was absorbed by the beauty of how the author incorporated the phrases as Luis's Cuban mother would naturally talk to her sons and daughter. I can't remember another author providing the bilingual conversation so naturally exactly as it would in a bilingual home seamlessly flowing between the two languages. I found the writing beautiful with a natural eloquence as I didn't need Google Translate to understand what Luis's mother said or a glossary of terms because of the presentation which endeared the author's writing to me.I also highly applaud the author sharing the personal struggle and recovery of an individual with Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED) by showing through one of the main characters that recovery is possible and recovery is ongoing. It doesn't cancel out professional success and/or personal happiness. Adding this dimension to Sara's character adds a depth that could have easily been skipped but elevates the story with hope and inspiration for someone that might be struggling in silence.Over the years I have purchased many greeting cards from the company called Papyrus with a hummingbird as part of their logo of "Express Beautifully" providing a hummingbird on a gold seal for each envelope. On the back of every card is printed, "Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy, and celebration. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning, and that laughter is life's sweetest creation." It seems quite appropriate that there are two (2) hummingbirds on the cover of "Island Affair as between the covers of this story a man and a woman will explore the legend of hummingbirds as created within the love story of Priscilla Oliveras. I'm so glad I didn't miss it. I hope you will enjoy reading it too.

I love a good fake dating romance and was excited for this one. I really loved the beginning when Sara and Luis meet. It did move a little slower than I prefer, but there were a few things that were thrown in to keep my interest. This was cute, but I was just waiting for that moment to put this above the rest. Overall, a cute read.

Island Affair was a fun book (like the cover!), a perfect escapist reading for these times. I really liked that Latin culture was weaved into the story, however I found the italicized Spanish to be a bit distracting. I do realize that it's correct to italicize foreign words, but given that this is a novel that includes Spanish as an integral part of the character's essence, the italics' function to highlight that "foreign nature" seems jarring and I believe a bit of artistic license in foregoing that formatting rule would have been justified. Aside from that, the Spanish was spot on, and I loved that. It's nice and refreshing to see us represented well.I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The first chapter jumps into the life of Luis, our leading man. It describes his career as a firefighter, his recent time off, and his family's dynamic. Not a bad way to introduce the story, right? That's what I assumed... but moving onto chapter two, our leading lady, Sara is introduced and literally the entirety of that chapter is them talking in a parking lot. I felt like I got decent information about who Sara is, but there was a strong disconnect with the two as they were conversing. With how quickly the story moved to, "Hey! Wanna be my fake boyfriend?" there needed to be more interaction between Sara and Luis outside the airport parking lot. And, why make Sara so desperate to please her family? Just meh.Once I pushed through the first few chapters, the flow of writing was able to hold my attention and I found the story overall enjoyable, even if drab at some points. If you're willing to overlook the few odd plot choices, Island Affair is a cute, fun read.Thank you to Goodreads and the publisher for providing me an ARC to read and honestly review.

Island Affair starts out with Luis Navarro lamenting that he is being forced to take a week off from his job as a fire fighter. We are given the impression that he has witnessed tragic events in his past and recently that have concerned those around him. The other main character, Sara Vance, has just been left in the lurch by her now ex-boyfriend and needs someone to stand in as her significant other on a family vacation. As luck would have it, she crosses paths with Luis and they strike a deal. Now, my first thought was that Island Affair would be mostly a rom-com type story where awkward incidents happen while Luis and Sara attempt to keep their stories straight and uphold their ruse for the benefit of Sara's family. I was pleasantly surprised. It was so much more than I anticipated. The depth and feeling that came out as Luis and Sara got to know each other was beautiful to read. Even though the action of the story happened only over a few days, the writing was so good that I truly believed that their feelings were genuine. I was rooting for them 100%. Luis and Sara's families were very different from each other and I loved that. The supporting characters were all interesting and gelled with the story. The setting of Florida was perfect and the beautiful cover successfully gives off that beach vibe. Congratulations to Priscilla Oliveras on writing this wonderful book as well as special thanks to the publisher and BookishFirst for the opportunity to read an ARC copy and give my own personal opinion of Island Affair. I look forward to recommending it upon its release.
