About this audiobook

An instant New York Times bestseller! “Grown exposes the underbelly of a tough conversation, providing a searing examination of misogynoir, rape culture, and the vulnerability of young black girls. Groundbreaking, heart-wrenching, and essential reading for all in the #MeToo era.” —Dhonielle Clayton, New York Times bestselling author of The Belles

Award-winning author Tiffany D. Jackson delivers another riveting, ripped-from-the-headlines mystery that exposes horrific secrets hiding behind the limelight and embraces the power of a young woman’s voice.

When legendary R&B artist Korey Fields spots Enchanted Jones at an audition, her dreams of being a famous singer take flight. Until Enchanted wakes up with blood on her hands and zero memory of the previous night. Who killed Korey Fields?

Before there was a dead body, Enchanted’s dreams had turned into a nightmare. Because behind Korey’s charm and star power was a controlling dark side. Now he’s dead, the police are at the door, and all signs point to Enchanted.

“Never have I read a story that so flawlessly hits the highest high and lowest low notes of Black girlhood in pursuit of the American Dream.” —Nic Stone, New York Times bestselling author of Dear Martin and Jackpot

I was triggered to the core. It breaks my heart when women are praised for anything but when they speak their truths. This is a heart wrenching story.

    ???

This book broke my heart ?

    He knew better! He knew!

This is the story of a rising musician and how a popular artist took advantage of her, raped her, tortured her and kept her from her family.

Unfortunate how this happens to women all over the world. Never in the same way but consistently the same outcome.

    5⭐️ read and utter perfection!

I expected nothing less from Tiffany D Jackson.

Powerful!! Thanks for giving the world a DIFFERENT, never before seen view. This novel is for all of the "Aaliyahs" in the world who's story wasn't told and justice wasn't served.

4.5 /5 All the feels! I must preface this by saying I've worked with sexual assault and DV survivors for 14 years. The author did a terrific job of weaving the subtle ways the grooming and manipulation and abuse escalated. The portrayal of how victim's reports are recieved felt genuine and sadly true to life. Masterfully written but not an easy-light read but an important topic that needs for light shone upon it!

Had to read this book for a 12th grade reading assignment and I can proudly say Im obsessed! As someone who is a victim to grown “mens” evil behavior and abuse as a young girl, this book shows respectfully and honestly how hard and traumatizing it is. And the plot twists at the end ? simply amazing!

I enjoyed the story and I love that it highlights some very important topics. There were moments that captured my full attention and reeled me in. It turns out to not be as predictable as it seemed in the beginning. For me, there was a lack of character development which prevented me from connecting with the protagonist.

This book has well captured the feeling and experiences of women who have been assaulted. I can’t believe it was just fiction, good job! I recommend it to all young and older women alike, anyone can be a victim.

The author did a wonderful job of character development amongst all of the characters. Her ability to give an accurate depiction of the innocence of the main character made the story.

Literally in love with the voice of the narrator. Amazed at how many different ranges she has and how she transforms each character. This book gave me current day in the news feels which I struggled with while listening, as I felt it took away some of the creativity in the writings. However Tiffany did not disappoint as she adds loads of twists that keep you holding on.

Engaging read to see how innocent naïveté get methodically caught up in manipulation and control. As well as black girls plight on being heard. Highly recommend!

My heart went out to Enchanted. I remember being in my early teens and getting unwanted attention from grown men. It made me super uncomfortable most of the time. Now what if that same type of attention came from an artist I admired? I probably would’ve entertained it just like Enchanted did because I was “mature” for my age.

I don't think I've blown through an audiobook this quickly in ages. This one hurt to read as the subject is just a tough one to digest. It was fast paced and so well written that I was invested the whole way through, hoping that Enchanted would make it out, that someone would believe her, that the bad people would all get theirs. I can't wait to pick up another of her novels.

this is a really good book. it really encapsulates the loss of innocence in a heartbreaking and enraging way. the writing is beautiful!
i'd also recommend the audiobook. it does elevate the experience of the story, even though at times it was pretty difficult to keep listening and had to put the book down for a day or two.
    i recommend it!
