- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was fun and funny and cool and the best
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Young Amelia Bedelia's parents are looking for a new house with more space, so that whole family piles into the car to look at available homes in the neighborhood. In her usual way, Amelia gets confused by idioms or mishearing things, so that she mistakes a "Tudor" home for a "two-door home" or thinks that she'll find horses at a ranch-style home. What's nice in these books (compared to the Amelia Bedelia titles I read as a child) is that her misunderstandings are explained by the text, making it easier for younger children to get the problem and possibly learn something themselves. The story is slight and isn't necessarily seen to completion (i.e., the family visits an open house, but they don't make any decisions about purchasing a home), but this is still a decent title. I could see it being especially useful for families who are in the beginning process of moving as a tool to talk to their children about what might be happening in their situation as well. The illustrations are fine, although I do find it a bit disappointing that there are no people of color in the book. Granted, there aren't many characters in the book, but at the very least the real estate agent shouldn't be the same exact shade as the Bedelia family.
